Jeremiah Kline finishes seventh at state wrestling meet

Trigg County wrestler Jeremiah Kline finished seventh at the Kentucky State Wrestling Tournament Saturday and became the first Wildcat wrestler in over 30 years to place at the event.

Kline lost in the second round of Friday's competition in the 113-pound class but battled back through the consolation round, earning a pin of Boyle County's Lucas McCain to take seventh place.

The last Trigg wrestler to place at state was his coach, Ralph Stevens, who won a state title in 1982.

Aaron Stevens went 2-2 at the meet and just missed the medal round by one match.  He finished the season with a record of 48-4, with three of his losses coming to wrestlers who finished in the top five in the state meet.

Trigg County finished 33rd overall at the meet with 23 points.

Meanwhile, Christian County sophomore Caleb Austin finished second in the 120-pound class to Union County's Trae Blackwell.

Also for the Colonels, Kory Polley took third in the 145-pound class, and Tre Sells finished eighth in the 152-pound class.

UHA's Cameron Montgomery took fifth place in the 160-pound class, while Caldwell County's Chris Gilkey finished sixth in the 132-pound class.

Also, Fort Campbell's David Sahms finished fourth in the 138-pound class, and Hopkinsville's Travon Thacker was eighth in the 106-pound division.

 

 

Trigg's Aaron Stevens wins first two matches at state wrestling tournament

After 560 matches, the first day of the Kentucky State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington is in the books.

At 106, Hopkinsville’s Travon Thacker won his first two matches to move into the quarterfinals.  He recorded a pin and a decision and will face Joey Scaggs of Dixie Heights today.

At 113, Trigg County’s Jeremiah Kline won his opening match with a pin but lost in the second round in a 6-5 decision to Chris Beeler of Madison Central.  Kline will square off in the consolation round today.  His season record is 6-3. 

At 120, Christian County’s Caleb Austin advanced to the quarterfinals with a pin and 6-4 decision.  Austin ran his season record to 28-4 with the wins.  He will face Louisville Trinity’s Keegn Duncan today.  Meanwhile, Hopkinsville’s Conner Jaschen won his opening round with a pin before falling in the second round.  He was eliminated with a consolation loss to Paducah Tilghman’s Derek Miller.

At 126, Christian County’s Camerin Cole lost his two matches of the day.  Meanwhile, the favorite to win the class, Union County’s Brock Ervin, needed just a minute and three seconds total to pin his two opponents and advance to the quarterfinals. 

At 138, both Christian County’s Kevi Matlock and Fort Campbell’s David Sahms moved into the quarterfinals with a pair of wins.  Matlock had two easy decisions, while Sahms recorded a pin in one of his two wins. If they both wins their matches today, Sahms and Matlock would meet in the semifinals.  Matlock’s record is 29-4, while Sahms is 50-4 and this year.

At 145, Christian County’s Korey Polley won his two matches to advance to the quarterfinals, with his second win by pin.  Polley improved to 24-2 with the wins.  Trigg County’s Ryan Gallogly lost his opening round match to PRP’s Alvaro Aguilar and was later eliminated by Trinity’s Cody Webb.  A season of injuries and sickness limited the Wildcat junior to just a 4-6 record.

At 152, Calloway County’s Kegan Agnew ran his record to 40-2 on the season with a pair of wins to advance to the quarterfinals.  Meanwhile, Christian County’s Kenneth Sells lost his first round match but rallied to win two in the consolation bracket to remain alive. 

At 160, UHA’s Cameron Montgomery is now 32-2 after a pin and decision win in his first two matches.  Meanwhile, Christian County’s Xavier Pate and Fort Campbell’s Jerry Haywood were both first round losers and were later eliminated in the consolation bracket.

At 170, Fort Campbell’s Ki Ryder won his first round match with a pin but lost in overtime in the second round.  He stayed alive to wrestle another match with a win in the consolation round.

At 182, both Christian County’s Joseph Freeland and Hopkinsville’s Mario Miles dropped their first round matches.  While Miles (28-20) lost his consolation round match and was eliminated, Freeland (31-14) rallied to pin two opponents in the consolation round to stay alive in the tournament. 

At 195, Trigg County junior Aaron Stevens (7-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a pair of pins on the opening day.  Stevens pinned Male’s Daniel Yun in 5:03 and later pinned Central’s Dominique Howard in 5:49 in the second round.  Stevens will face Conner junior Trevor Thompson (36-5) today.  Meanwhile, Christian County’s Stevie Mason won his opening round match with a pin but was pinned himself in 32 seconds in the second round.  He then lost his consolation match.

At 220, both Tevin Toler of Christian County and Dustin Armendaz of Fort Campbell lost both their matches on the tournament’s first day.

At 285, Fort Campbell’s Jake Jorstad went 1-1 in the championship round and stayed alive with a pin in he consolation round.

 

Trigg County to host regional wrestling duals today

Trigg County is hosting the Region I small school wrestling duals tournament today at Wildcat Gym.

Eight smaller schools are expected to compete at the event, with the top two scoring schools to advance to the state tournament in Louisville.

Wrestling begins at 9:30am at Wildcat Gym.  Trigg County fans who wear their Wildcat gear will be admitted free.

Trigg wrestlers go 4-1 at Jeffersontown Duals

Trigg County won four of their five matches at the Jeffersontown Duals Saturday with four wrestlers going undefeated for the day.

Trigg County scored wins over Iroquois (44-30), Eastern (54-30), St. Xavier (51-33), and DeSales (48-33).  Their lone loss came to North Hardin 44-38.

Winning all five of their matches for Trigg County were Jeremiah Kline, Ryan Gallogly, Jayven Jones, and Aaron Stevens.

Going 4-1 was Daniel Ingram, while Malik Cunningham, Colton Lewis, and Montgomery Smith were all 3-2 on the day.

 

 

Trigg County Wrestling season begins Saturday

Trigg County kicks off their 2012-13 wrestling season Saturday with the Keegan Mangels Takedown Tournament at Wildcat Gym.

Wrestling will begin around 8:30am with medals awarded for first through sixth place finishers for both high school and middle school.

Admission is five dollars for adults and two dollars for students.

TCHS wrestling coach Ralph Stevens previewed the tournament and the season on the Saturday Morning Sports Report.

Christian County takes third at Fort Knox Invitational

 

Christian County finished third at the Fort Knox Wrestling Invitational Saturday.

The Colonels finished 15 points out of first place behind winner Tates Creek.

The Colonels had five individual placers lead by tournament champions Jamerean Killebrew at 112 and Dakorian Polley at 140. They also had two runner-ups in Caleb Austin (pictured above) at 103 and Jeremy Burnham at 119. Also placing for the Colonels was Lance Cooper, who was fourth at 125.

"It was a day of firsts for us. Killebrew was named his first tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler. He pinned every one of his opponents. Polley won his first tournament defeating Nelson County's Daniel Pile. Both Austin and Burnham made it to their first finals match. Overall it was a good day, and the team came together and wrestled well against some tough competition," said head coach Robert Burnham.

Hopkinsville edged Fort Campbell to win the Calloway County Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Murray.  Trigg County finished fifth.

Kline, Sells win middle school region wrestling titles

 

Trigg County's Jeremiah Kline and Christian County's Kenneth Sells each won middle school region wrestling titles Saturday at the Region I Meet at Danville.

Kline took first place in the 96-pound class, and Sells (pictured above) won the 131-pound class.

Christian County had four wrestlers take runner-up honors.  They were Caleb Austin at 103, Camerin Cole at 117, Marshawn Taylor at 165, and Tevin Toler at 230.

Also qualifying for the state meet were third place finishers Triveon Hampton (150) and Stefan Lamos (165), and fourth place finishers Kenneth Major (89) and Kobe Perry (165).

For Trigg County, Elliott Boyd took fifth place in the 150-pound class, and Devante Turner was fifth in the 70-pound class.  They will be alternates for the state meet, which will be held February 5 at Montgomery County High School.

As a team, Christian County finished fourth with 123 points, while Trigg County was ninth out of the 21 teams.  Union County (188.5) won the region team title.

 

 

Christian County takes second at Toyota of Hopkinsville Wrestling Invitational

 

Christian County took second at the 9th Annual Toyota of Hopkinsville Invitational last week, finishing behind Gibson Southern High of Indiana.

Christian County had one champion in the high school tourney -- J.J. Killebrew (pictured above) at the 112-pound class.  Kory Polley (140), Micah Crutcher (171), and Marlon Pate (189) -- all took second place.

In the middle school division, the Colonels had two champions- Camerin Cole at 117 and Marshawn Taylor at 165.  The Colonels also had four runner-ups -- Kenneth Sells at 131, Triveon Hampton at 150, Xavier Pate at 185 and Tevin Toler at 230.

Trigg County had one champion in the 103-pound class -- Jeremiah Kline.  Jashon Fashon (110) finished second, and Devonte Turner (70) took third place.  Elliott Boyd (165) finished in fourth, and Malik Cunningham (124) took fifth place.

Trigg Middle takes fourth in Hoptown wrestling meet

Trigg County Middle School took fourth place out of 11 teams Wednesday at the Hopkinsville Invitational.

First place winners for Trigg County were Jeremiah Kline (103) and Malik Cunningham (125).

Jordan Walker took third place in the 70-pound class; and fourth place winners were Devonte Turner (70); Zack Colbert (82); and Elliott Boyd (165).

Head coach Ralph Stevens said it was the first time Trigg has had six wrestlers finish in the top four places.

Trigg will wrestle again next Wednesday at Christian County.

 

Christian County wrestlers take third at Armstrong Classic

 

Christian County took third place at the Caldwell County Armstrong Classic Saturday, finishing behind Ravenwood, Tenn. and Ohio County.

Kory Polley won the 135-pound division, while J.J. Killebrew was second at the 112-pound class.  Zeb White was second in the 215-pound class.  Jeremy Burnham, pictured above (119), Marlon Pate (189), and Steven Stapp (285) took third place.  Seventh grader Froilan Agulto finished fourth in the 103-pound class.

"It wasn't a bad showing, but we were hoping for more," said CCHS head coach Robert Burnham.  "I was really pleased with (7th grader) Froilan Agulto, who stepped into the 103 position and placed 4th. Not bad for his first ever Varsity tournament." 

Trigg County competed at the tournament, with Jeremiah Kline finishing second in the 103-pound class.

Daniel Ingram (125) and Jayson Faison took seventh, and Ryan Gallogly (130) and Devin Hammond (135) both finished in eighth place.

"Jeremiah got our Wrestler of the Week award voted on by the coaches.  This was his first loss at the high school level," said head coach Ralph Stevens.  "I'm proud of our guys, and we got to see some teams we haven't seen this year.  We're just looking to improve as the season goes on."

Meanwhile, University Heights competed in the Cape Girardeau Tiger Classic and had four wrestlers medal.

Wade Willen advanced to the finals where he lost his first match of the season to a Missouri wrestler.  Willen is now 17-1 on the season. 

Daniel Urban took second place in the 152-pound class and stands at 14-3 on the season.

Taylor Saturday (15-3) finished in fifth place, and Cameron Montgomery (14-5) also finished in fifth place.

"This tournament was tougher than any tournament in Kentucky, and I hope the guys will learn from the tough competition," said UHA head coach Doug Willen."  I am very proud that our small squad was able to place four wrestlers in this event, which was packed with ranked wrestlers and numerous high school all-americans.  Even though we took some losses I am hoping this will make us better by the time the state tournament  comes around."

Region I Wrestling Meet Results

Here are the Region I Wrestling Tournament results from Saturday at Ohio County High School.

Union County won the team competition with 262 points.  Christian County was second with 152 points, followed by University Heights (149), and Fort Campbell (136).  Hopkinsville was 10th and Trigg County 12th.

"I was very happy with the overall performance of our wrestlers. A few of them lost early matches yet they continued to battle back and earn team points as well as qualify for the state individual tournament," Christian County head coach Robert Burnham said.

Trigg County had two wrestlers finish in the top six of their class.

"I was pleased with how they did.  You can see the improvement they have made since the first practice of the year.  I'm proud of them," TCHS head coach Ralph Stevens said.

The top four finishers in each class advance to this weekend's state meet at Frankfort.

Trigg wrestlers advance to state

Trigg County had five wrestlers qualify for the state middle school wrestling tournament following their performance at the Region I Meet Saturday at Union County.

Jeremiah Kline won the 82-pound division, while Skylar Pool (131), Daniel Ingram (103), and Aaron Stevens finished second.  Jayven Jones was third in the 140-pound class.  All five will advance to state middle school tournament Feb. 6 at Central Hardin High School.

As a team, Trigg County finished second out of nine teams with 109 points.  North Hardin won with 176 points, and Caldwell County was third with 104 points.

The Christian County Middle School team finished fifth.  Placing for the Colonels were Lance Cooper at 124, Marshawn Taylor at 165, Xavier Pate at 185 and Tevin Tolar at 230.

The Christian County High School team finished third at the Region I Duals Meet, also held at Union County.

The Colonels defeated Calloway County- 60-22, Paducah Tilghman- 54-22, and Daviess County- 60-21. The Colonels lone loss in their pool was to Fort Campbell- 50-24. In the 3rd place match the Colonels defeated Apollo- 59-24 to finish 4-1 on the day and run their season dual record to 18-11.

Going 5-0 on the day for Christian County were J.J. Killebrew at 112, Kory Polley at 130, Jeron Trice at 160, Nick White at 171 and Marlon Pate at 285.  Finishing 4-1 on the day were Asa Odoms at 103, and Micah Crutcher at 189.

Trigg County finished seventh in the duals, beating Calloway County and Paducah Tilghman.

Trigg County will wrestle at Calloway County next weekend, while Christian County will wrestle Thursday at University Heights versus the Blazers and Hopkinsville High School.

Christian County wins wrestling meet

The Christian County wrestling team ran it's season dual record to 14-10 by defeating Daviess County 47-33 and Caldwell County 53-18 in Owensboro last night.

Finishing the night at 2-0 were J. J. Killebrew at 112, Kory Polley at 130, Nick White at 171, Micah Crutcher at 189, Zeb White at 215 and Marlon Pate at 285.

The Colonels will wrestle Saturday at the Region 1 Duals at Union County High School.

Trigg County finishes third at district wrestling meet

Trigg County finished in third place at the first-ever District I Middle School Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Wildcat Gym.  In the process they qualified seven wrestlers for next week's Region I Tournament.

Taking first place in their weight class were Skylar Pool (131), Jayven Jones (140), and Aaron Stevens (185).

Finishing second were Jeremiah Kline (82), and Daniel Ingram (103).

Ryan Gallogly finished third in the 110-pound class, and Zack Colbert was fourth in the 70-pound class.

Meanwhile, Christian County also had nine wrestlers qualify for the region tournament.

Brandon Wiley (140) and Tevin Tolar (230) finished second, while Marshawn Taylor finished third in the 165-pound class.

Froilan Agulto (89), Jonathan Hall at 96, Camerin Cole at 110, Lance Cooper at 124, Devon Torain at 165, and Xavier Pate at 185 each placed fourth.

In the team competition, Union County won with 218 points, followed by University Heights (132) and Trigg County in third with 127 points.  Caldwell County was fourth, Calloway County fifth, and Hopkinsville finished sixth.

Next week's Region I meet will be at Union County.

Christian County's wrestling team finished fourth over the weekend at the Creekwood Invitational in Clarksville.

Kory Polley won the 130-pound class, defeating Austin Higgins of Sycamore (17-1) in the quarterfinals, pinning Nate Corley of Pigeon Forge in the semifinals, and pinning Matt Baker of Gibbs High School in the championship.

Asa Odoms (103), Jeron Trice (160), and Marlon Pate (285) each finished second, and Steven Sapp was fourth in the 285-pound class.

Christian County will wrestle Caldwell County and Daviess County Thursday in Owensboro.

Trigg wrestling meeting is Tuesday, not today

There will be a meeting Monday Tuesday for parents of Trigg County high school and middle school wrestlers.  The meeting will be at 6pm in the elementary gym.  Coach Ralph Stevens said one parent needs to be in attendence.

Middle school wrestlers compete at Christian County tourney

Aaron Stevens took first place in the 185-pound division in the middle school portion of the Toyota of Hopkinsville/Christian County Wrestling Tournament Tuesday.

Daniel Ingram took second in the 103-pound division, and Skylar Pool was second in the 131-pound class.

Jeremiah Kline was third in the 82-pound class, and Jayven Jones was third in the 140-pound class, and Devonie Cunningham was fourth in the 117-pound class.

Trigg wrestlers compete at All Results Camp

Trigg County had four wrestlers compete at the Seventh Annual All Results Wrestling Camp at Austin Peay State University.

Darren Boren, Aaron Stevens, Ryan Gallogly, and Collin Stevens took part in the camp, which featured instruction by former U.S. Olympic silver medalist and U.S. Olympic head coach Zeke Jones and NCAA champions Greg Strobel and Duane Goldman.

Collin Stevens won the hustle award while at the camp.

"It was a great camp for the kids," said TCMS wrestling coach Ralph Stevens.  "I look forward to next year's camp and hope we can take more kids to the camp."

Elementary wrestling tournament slated for Saturday

Trigg County will host an elementary wrestling tournament Saturday at 9am at Wildcat Gym.

Trigg wrestling coach Ralph Stevens expects 11 schools and over 200 wrestlers ages 6 to 12 to compete in the tournament.  Admission is free.

Meanwhile, Trigg County competed in the Christian County tournament Saturday.

First place winners were Collin Stevens, Malik Cunningham, and Jordan Walker.

Second place finishers were C.J. Ahart, Wyatt Holstrom, and Elliott Boyd.

Third place finishers were Braden Sperry, Jessie Sperry, Matthew Carneyhan, Keegan Sloane, Taylor Hampton, and Keegan Mangels.

Elementary wrestlers win region meet

Trigg County won the elementary school regional wrestling tournament Saturday at Midcat Gym.

Trigg's 63 points were better than second place Christian County (40).  UHA (29) was third, followed by Union County (28), Daviess County (17), and Hopkinsville (4).

First place winners for Trigg County were C.J. Ahart (4-6 45 class); Brice Cunningham (50 class); Trae Thompson (65); Jordan Walker (7-8 year old 60 class); Collin Stevens (7-8 60 class); Braden Sperry (9-10 year old 75 class); Keegan Mangles (9-10 80 class); and Elliott Boyd (11-12 year old 120 class).

Second place finishers for Trigg were Tyson Bush (7-8 y/o 100 class); Taylor Hampton (9-10 y/o 75 class); McKenzie Fowler (80 class); Jeremiah Kline (11-12 y/o 70 class); and Jesse Sperry (120 class).

The state meet will be this Saturday at Fern Creek High School in Louisville.

Trigg wrestlers fare well at UHA meet

Trigg County had two wrestlers claim first place finishes at the University Heights wrestling meet over the weekend.

Devonae Cunningham was a first place finisher in the elementary school division, while Jeremiah Kline took first place in his middle school weight class.

Second place finishers for Trigg County were Eli Cubick (Elem.), Riley Reynolds (M.S.), Jayvon Jones (M.S.), and Aaron Stevens (M.S.).

Third place finishers were Colin Stevens (Elem.), Jessie Sperry (Elem.), Ryan Galogly (M.S.), and Cody Fisher (M.S.).

Fourth place finishers for Trigg County were Jordan Walker (Elem.), Malik Cunningham (Elem.), and Darren Boren (M.S.).

Bradon Sperry took fifth place, and Sara Miracle was sixth in the elementary division.

The middle school wrestlers will compete in the regional meet Saturday in Larue County.

Trigg County Middle School wrestlers finish fourth

Trigg County's middle school wrestling team finished fourth out of seven teams at the Hopkinsville Orange and Black Tournament Saturday in Hopkinsville.

Romaine Cunningham was named the outstanding wrestler in the middle school division after winning his weight class.

Other first place finishers for Trigg County were Jeremiah Kline, Brian Galogly, and Cody Fisher.

Second place finishers for Trigg were Riley Reynolds and Jayven Jones, while Aaron Stephens and Ethan Dossett finished third, and Keegan Mangles finished fourth in his weight class.

Christian County won the middle school division with UHA second and Hopkinsville third.

First place winners for Christian County were Cameron Montgomery and Trey Johnson.

Trigg County will wrestle again Dec. 29 at Christian County.

Three Trigg wrestlers win at the UHA tourney

Trigg County Middle School finished third out of eight teams at the Tim French Middle School Wrestling Tournament Saturday at University Heights Academy.

Trigg's point total of 138 points trailed only Rossview Middle (160) and UHA (149.5).

First place winners for Trigg County were Jeremiah Kline in the 70-pound class; Riley Reynolds in the 89-pound class; and Gary Barker in the 185-pound class.

Aaron Stevens took second place in the 165-pound class; Daniel Ingram was third in the 96-pound class; Romaine Cunningham was third in the 103-pound class; Jayven Jones was third in the 110-pound class; and Darren Boren was fourth in the heavyweight class.

"I'm proud of them.  For it to be their first meet, they did a tremendous job," said TCMS coach Ralph Stevens of his 17 wrestlers.

Trigg County will wrestle again at the Hopkinsville Middle School Takedown Tournament.
