Fans were treated to bonus soccer in the first round of the Second Region Girls' Tournament Monday night at the Stadium of Champions.
It will be a rematch of the Third District championship as both University Heights and Hopkinsville needed overtime to pick up wins and advance.
UHA needed sudden death overtime to beat Caldwell County 5-4, while Hopkinsville edged Trigg County 2-1 in regular overtime.
Bennett Peck scored midway through the overtime period for the game-winner as Hopkinsville advanced to the title game for the second straight year.
Trigg County took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Laykn Brooks in the 52nd minute. Hopkinsville's Payton Bucko tied the game ten minutes later with a goal from 25 feet out.
Although getting outshot 32-12 in the game, Trigg County twice had open looks at the goal only to have shots knocked away in the goal box by Lady Tiger defenders.
Danni Romero made 12 saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats, who see their season end with a record of 9-10-1. The 10 wins is a new school record for the club, which made the school's first-ever appearance in the region tournament.
Before the game, a moment of silence was held at the stadium. Trigg County players released three balloons, which had the names Kayla, Kortney, and Ethan written on them in honor of their three classmates that were killed in Roaring Springs last week. Several of the players were close friends to Kayla Williams and Kortney Frensley.
Hopkinsville improves to 15-4-1 on the season and will play UHA in Thursday's championship game.
Sara Allen scored in a sudden death overtime period to lift the Lady Blazers to a 5-4 win over Caldwell County, ending the Lady Tigers' streak of three straight region titles.
Allen scored two goals on the night, including the go-ahead goal in the second half.
Shayna Hudson gave UHA a 4-2 lead, but Caldwell County responded with goals from Savannah Pepper and Renee Laurent, with the tying goal coming inside the final two minutes of regulation.
UHA outshot Caldwell 32-29 in the game, with Layton Atwood making 19 saves in goal for the Lady Blazers.
UHA (14-4-2) will be making their first appearance in the region title game since 2000.
