Christian County head coach Josh Smith has resigned from his job before coaching his first game.
A media release from the Christian County Board of Education said Smith resigned today as basketball coach and history teacher for health reasons. Assistant coach Kyle Eades has been promoted to interim head coach of the Colonels.
Christian County Athletic Director Steve Lovelace said the coaching position will be re-posted at the end of the school year.
Smih was hired in the spring to replace Tyler Smithhart, who took the Henderson County head coaching job after a 9-22 record in his only season as CCHS head coach. He previously coached at Stewart County, Tennessee and the Clarksville Academy where he led TCA to the 2011 Class 1A state championship. Smith stepped down after that season for what he called "family reasons" and did not coach last year. He took the Christian County job saying he was ready to get back into coaching and called it a "dream job."
The Colonels have been picked as a preseason top three team in the Second Region this year in various coaching polls and websites.
