The high school basketball season kicks off this week across the Commonwealth. There are only two games Monday night involving Second Region schools. Community Christian visits Crittenden County and Lyon County travels to St. Mary. Lyon County got some good news last week when 6-5 Thomas Scott was ruled eligible after transferring from neighboring Crittenden County. Scott averaged 16.1 points and 6.3 rebounds last year and gives the Lyons size in the middle to go with their returning backcourt.
Tonight Lyon County head coach Jeff Embrey will go for his 100th career Kentucky coaching win against St. Mary. Embrey coached in Indiana before leading Trigg County to the district title in his only season there in 2006-07. He is 89-56 in five seasons at Lyon County and 99-75 overall.
Seven coaches in the region will make their debut at their school this week:
Josh Smith (Christian County) - Dec. 4 vs. Madisonville
Grant Shouse (University Heights) - Thursday at Union County
RaShaune Echols (Fort Campbell) - Tuesday vs. Union County
Tyler Smithhart (Henderson County) - Tuesday at Evansville (IN) Memorial
Daniel Kukahiko (Caldwell County) - Scheduled for Friday vs. Madisonville
Matt Beshear (Madisonville) - Tuesday at Daviess County
Kyle Yates (Livingston Central) - Tuesday at Hopkins County Central
