Trigg County's Tyler Mitchell is tied for third place after two rounds of the Kentucky State Amateur Golf Tournament being played at the Cardinal Club in Louisville.
After a first round 68 (-3) that saw him tied for the lead, Mitchell carded an even-par 71 Wednesday with a round that included a birdie, a bogey, and 16 pars.
Mitchell is four shots behind Murray State University golfer Nick Newcomb of Benton, who stands at seven-under par and has a two-shot lead in his quest to win his second straight state amateur.
The final round will be played today.
Meanwhile, Princeton golfer Emma Talley has advanced to the round of 32 in the 112th Amateur National Championship in Monroe, Michigan. Talley advanced after two rounds of stroke play. On Wednesday, she defeated Meredith Fairburn of Ontario, Canada 1 up.
Today, Talley will play another round of match play against Moriya Jutanugarn of Bangkok, Thailand.
