Trigg County claimed their first-ever All-A Classic region baseball title with a 6-2 win over Caldwell County Thursday night in Hopkinsville.
R.J. Sholar had three hits at the plate with two RBIs and limited Caldwell County to two hits over six innings on the mound.
Alex Sadler added an RBI double, and Zack Snodgrass and Hunter Allen each had RBI singles for the Wildcats, who broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning.
Sholar struck out six and walked six for the Wildcats, who improved to 10-4 with their eighth straight win.
Caldwell County, who lost in the All-A region final for the second straight year, fell to 3-8 with the loss.
The All-A region title is the first for Trigg County in baseball. The Wildcats will host fourth region champ Glasgow in an All-A sectional contest. The date and time for that game has not been set. The winner of the sectional game will advance to the All-A State Tournament May 7-8 at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington.
Trigg County advanced to the region final with a 1-0 semifinal win over University Heights Wednesday. Hunter Allen pitched a complete game one-hitter, with Zack Snodgrass driving in the only run of the game.
