Trigg County to create Athletic Hall of Fame

Trigg County High School is creating an athletic hall of fame to recognize and honor the rich tradition of athletic excellence in the county.  The hall of fame’s inaugural class will be announced in mid-December, with an induction ceremony and banquet to be held in early 2011.

“It has long been a desire of mine to see Trigg County High School establish an overall Athletic Hall of Fame.  We have a rich athletic history in many sports and have had many outstanding male and female athletes as well as coaches and others who have made great contributions to our athletic programs,” said current TCHS boys basketball coach Mike Wright, who also serves on the selection committee. 

The hall of fame committee has the full backing of the high school and Trigg County School System and includes current and past TCHS coaches, players, and community members.  The group has created several subcommittees to handle the details involved in setting up the banquet itself and to determine who will be inducted.

Athletes, coaches, and contributors to athletic programs at TCHS will be considered for induction to the hall of fame, based on criteria that includes, but is not limited to, athletic accomplishments (both in high school and college), contributions to the athletic program, community impact, and citizenship. 

Only those athletes that graduated from TCHS or later received their GED will be eligible for the hall of fame, Wright said.  However, accomplishments at other pre-consolidation county schools such as Golden Pond, Linton Rogers, Cadiz, and Cerulean will be considered for induction as well.

An athlete must be out of high school for 10 years to be considered for induction, while coaches must be retired for five years.

“I think the honor of being inducted into the Trigg County Athletic Hall of Fame will be a very meaningful experience to all of those voted in. In time, I think our annual Hall of Fame weekend will become a special time that is marked on many people's calendars,” Wright said.  “Each year we will have a banquet, complete with meal, to honor the inductees. The inductees will be presented with a plaque to take home and there will also be a plaque placed in a special area of the gymnasium reserved for the Hall of Fame.”

The community will also be asked to submit hall of fame nominations, with those forms available at the high school.

Kentucky vs. Washington on WKDZ

Kentucky will play Washington in the semifinals of the EA Sports Maui Invitational tonight in Hawaii.  UK advanced with a 76-64 first round win over Oklahoma, while Washington put away Virginia in the final first round win of the day.  UConn and Michigan State meet in the other semifinal.

The only other time Kentucky faced Washington was in the 1985 NCAA Tournament when UK downed the Deitleif Schrimpf-led Huskies 66-58 in what was the final week of the Joe B. Hall tenure at UK.

Airtime on WKDZ 106.5 FM is 7pm with the pregame show, with the tip around 8:30pm.  The game will also be shown on ESPN.

 

Trigg County Diamond Club selling Christmas trees and wreaths

The Trigg County Diamond Club is selling North Carolina Frasier Fur Christmas trees and wreaths as a fundraiser for the upcoming season.

The trees range in size from five feet to 10 feet and cost from $25-$50.

The wreaths are from 8-24 inches in diameter and range in price from $15-$35.

The trees and wreaths will be on sale starting Friday at 8 a.m. at the corner of Main and Nunn Boulevard in Cadiz at the old Standard Service Station.

Trigg County falls to Madisonville in scrimmage

Madisonville beat Trigg County in a boys basketball scrimmage Tuesday night at Wildcat Gym.  The Maroons won all four quarters, with the third quarter the closest at 23-21.  Had a running score been kept, Madisonville would have won by a score of 71-39.

Jaylen Mount scored 10 points for Trigg County, and Deonquez Nance added seven.

Tray Carr led Madisonville with 13 points, and Josiah Powell added 11.

Trigg scrimmaged at Whitesville Trinity last Friday and won that exhibition.  Had a score been kept, it would have been 67-26 in favor of Trigg.

The Wildcats open their season Tuesday night at home against Fort Campbell.

Trigg's girls have their final scrimmage tonight at home against Mayfield at 6pm.

 

Curtis Higgins resigns as Fern Creek football coach

Former Trigg County coach Curtis Higgins has resigned as football coach at Fern Creek High School in Louisville.

Higgins coached the Tigers for four seasons, going 28-20.  He was 69-26 in eight seasons as Trigg County coach from 1999-2006.  His overall record, which also includes a stop at Oldham County, is 114-70.

Higgins told me via a text message Monday night he plans to seek an administration level job in the Louisville area.

"I'll be certified completely by the end of the spring, and I'll be looking for a job as an assistant principal or maybe as an athletic director," Higgins told Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal. "This is something I knew was a possibility. I just didn't know when I was going to make the move."

Higgins brought an exciting offensive style to Trigg County when he arrived from Louisville in 1999, and several of his teams and players still sit atop the TCHS football record book.  Higgins also served as softball coach and assistant athletic director at Trigg before leaving for Fern Creek after the 2007 school year.

 

Kentucky vs. Oklahoma on WKDZ

Kentucky takes on Oklahoma today in the first round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Wildcats last played in Maui in 2007 in what was Tubby Smith's last year at UK.  They beat DePaul but lost to UCLA and the John Calipari-coached Memphis Tigers.

Kentucky is 6-3 in three other appearances, winning their only Maui title in 1994 on Jeff Brassow's last second tip-in to beat Arizona.

It's hard to believe but Kentucky and Oklahoma have met just twice on the hardwood.  Once in 1946 and on Senior Day in 1987 when the Wildcats, led by James Blackmon, beat the Sooners 75-74.  That UK team went on to lose to Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Trigg County Upward gets recognized in article

Trigg County's Upward Basketball Program received some regional recognition in the Southern Baptist Western Recorder.  The story featured the Upward scholarship program.  There's also a picture of at least one good looking kid in the story.

Kentucky takes on the Pilots of Portland tonight at 9:30pm local time in Portland.  The game is a stop for UK on their way to the Maui Shootout.

SI writer nominates Shawn Berner for Sportsman of the Year

Sports Illustrated is set to name their Sportsman of the Year later this month.  The award has been chosen every year since the magazone began in 1954.

SI college writer Andy Staples was on post back in August to write a story about Fort Campbell football and the job head coach Shawn Berner has done in coaching and teaching his students and players.

Staples' visit to Fort Campbell must have left a lasting impression because he has nominated Berner for the prestigious SI Sportsman of the Year Award.  Other nominations by SI writers include NHL star Sidney Crosby, Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter, the Butler Bulldogs, and PGA golfer Grahame McDowell.

Hopkinsville native Steve Pardue steps down as LaGrange football coach

Steve Pardue has resigned as football coach at LaGrange (Ga.) High School after 17 years and three state titles.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Pardue's resignation today in an online story.

Pardue was 161-46 in 17 seasons, but the Grangers finished 5-6 this year -- their first losing season in 11 seasons.

LaGrange has had quite the pipeline to the University of Kentucky, sending standouts Wesley Woodyard, Qua Huzzie, Quenton McCord, Braxton Kelley, and Demoreo Ford north to Lexington to play for the 'Cats.

Pardue is a Hopkinsville native, playing for Fred Clayton at Christian County High School.  He later lettered in football three seasons at Austin Peay State University.  His first head coaching job was at Crittenden County where the Rockets were 17-23 from 1987-90.  

Pardue is also the brother-in-law of former Caldwell County football coach Pat Gates.

Could Pardue be headed back north to pursue another coaching challenge?

“I’m at peace, and I’m excited about whatever’s next,” Pardue told the LaGrange Daily News.  “I know from a personal standpoint I’ve got to find something that’s real time-consuming.”

 

Griffin Joiner signs letter to play at University of Kentucky

Christian County's Griffin Joiner has signed a letter of intent to play her college softball at the University of Kentucky.  Joiner chose UK over Louisville and Murray State, however she verballed to UK last year.

Joiner has the chance to leave Christian County as one of the best ever to play at the school, which is saying something given the tradition of the Lady Colonel program.  Joiner is a career .461 hitter with 12 homers, 150 RBIs, and 71 extra base hits.  She has struck out only 15 times in 483 career at bats.

Last year, Joiner hit .556 with 11 homers and 53 RBIs.  Her average was the highest single-season batting average in school history.

Joiner was a second team all-state selection in both 2008 and 2009 and was first time all state last year in addition to being named to the state tournament all-tournament team.

Joiner also carries a 4.1 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and was first team academic all-state for softball.

Dee Lett adjusting to new role at Alabama A&M

Dee Lett is not only adjusting to a new position, but a new life at Alabama A&M following his transfer from Ball State.

The former Christian County Colonel standout had nine tackles, including five for loss, in A&M's 21-7 win over Mississippi Valley State last week.  Lett has made the move from linebacker to defensive end, and the move appears to have paid off for the redshirt sophomore.

Casey Castile signs with Murray State

Christian County outfielder Casey Castile has signed a letter to continue her softball career at Murray State University.

The senior said she chose Murray State over Western Kentucky and Evansville.  Castile is an all-district and all-region softball and volleyball player, helping the Lady Colonels to district titles in both sports the past three years. 

Castile hit .361 last year in 46 games with 9 HR and 34 RBIs.  She currently ranks 15th in the state in career homeruns with 19.  She is a career .352 hitter and has 81 RBIs.

With a 3.6 GPA, Castile is a member of the National Honors Society, and says she is undecided on her college major.

• Audrey Futrell (Trigg County) scored two points for Mid-Continent University in their 76-54 exhibition loss to Murray State Monday.  Futrell, a freshman, has played in two games for MCU this year.
• Janada Acree (Trigg County) scored two points for Wabash Valley College as they beat Vincennes University 71-64.  Acree, a sophomore, is a second-year starter for Wabash Valley.
• Olivia Akridge (Lyon County) scored 23 points to lead Transylvania to a 79-75 win over Wilmington College Tuesday in the season opener for the Lady Pioneers.
• Tayla Foster (Madisonville) had eight points and eight rebounds for Tennessee State in their 57-43 win over Southern Illinois Tuesday.  Christian County's Denisha Mumford did not play for the Lady Tigers.
• Melly Heaton (Caldwell County) had two points for Campbellsville University in their 56-55 loss to Bethel University.  Heaton was one of CU's leading scorers last year.  Todd County's Millie Deason is also on the Campbellsville roster but didn't score against Bethel.
• Speaking of Todd County, former Lady Rebels Holly Simons and Evelyn Turner had a hand in Brescia's 69-62 win over UC-Clermont.  Simons had five points and five rebounds, while Turner added three points and a rebound.
• Arnika Brown had an off night for Western Kentucky in their season opening 71-55 loss at Louisiana Tech.  Brown was scoreless in 13 minutes for the Lady Toppers.
• Former Livingston Central standout Kayla Schull had 16 points and nine rebounds for Midway College in their 78-68 loss to Kentucky Christian Tuesday.  Schull, a junior, is averaging 14.1 points a game for the Lady Eagles this year.  Jessica Cozart, a freshman, came off the bench to score three points and grab two rebounds.

 

Midweek Men's Basketball recap

Here is a look at how some of the local men's basketball players are doing in college. 

• Juniors Tyshwan Edmondson and Josh Terry, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team were named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Newcomers of the Week, the league office announced.  The pair of junior-college transfers led the Govs in a 64-61 win at St. Louis, Friday, in non-conference action. Terry (Henderson County) finished with 18 points, including a 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line. The Three Rivers product did not miss a shot in the first half, and scored 10 points in the final stanza. Edmondson (UHA), meanwhile, also had 10 second-half points en route to a 17-point APSU debut. The Midland College transfer scored six straight points to spark the Govs comeback run.
• Sophomore Corey Wilford (Christian County) had 14 points Monday to lead Conners State JC (Okla.) to a 76-63 win over Southern Nazarine.  Conners State is 7-0, and Wilford is averaging 25.0 points a game to lead Conners State this season.
• A couple of former crosstown rivals have helped Shawnee Community College to a 4-0 start.  sophomore DaQuan Murden (Christian County) is averaging 7.6 points a game, while Leon Swope (Hopkinsville) is scoring 2.5 points a game.
• DaQuan Brown had two points and three rebounds in 19 minutes of action for Drury University in their 88-69 win over Upper Iowa.  Brown, a former University Heights Academy standout, transferred to the Division II school from Southeastern Illinois College after two seasons there.
• Freshman Shaquille Wilson (Christian County) is scoring four points a game for Wabash Valley College in Illinois.  Wabash Valley is off to a 4-0 start.
• C.J. Trotter (Christian County) scored 21 points to lead the University of Southern Indiana to a 90-68 win over McKendree College Tuesday night in Evansville.  Trotter, a senior, is averaging 13.3 points a game for the Eagles.
• Tennessee senior Scotty Hopson (University Heights Academy) scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to help lead the 24th ranked Volunteers to an 85-76 win over Belmont Tuesday night in Knoxville.  The Vols are off to a 2-0 start.

Western Kentucky trio lead Austin Peay to win over Chattanooga

Caleb Brown buried a 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left to give Austin Peay State a 70-67 win at Chattanooga Monday.

However, it was a trio of former western Kentucky high school stars that did the most damage.

Former Henderson County standout and APSU junior Josh Terry had 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Junior Tyshwan Edmonson (University Heights Academy) added 14 points and six rebounds, and junior Jon Fraley (Heritage Christian Academy) had seven points and 11 rebounds.

Austin Peay (2-0) returns to action Thursday at Lipscomb.

Trigg County finished the season with a school record 21 wins and won the school's first district title in nine years in 2010.

 

Sean Hurd finishes fourth at state cross country meet

Christian County senior Sean Hurd finished fourth in the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet Sunday in Lexington.  Hurd's time of 16:14 was 41 seconds behind the race winner Evan Ehrenheim of Daviess County.

Hurd's teammate Jeff Binienda finished 29th.

In the Class 2A race, Hopkinsville's boys finished 21st out of 30 teams.  Kenny Longstreath led Hopkinsville with a 64th place finish, followed by James Northcutt (82nd), I'Rell Patterson (128th), Ryan Crossett (187th), Cornelius Smith (203rd), and Isaiah Lawton (221st).

In the 2A girls race, Trigg County's Lynease Byers finished 63rd.  She was Trigg's lone runner.

Hopkinsville finished 18th out of 28 teams.  Lady Tiger freshman Aunye Christian finished in 10th place.  She was followed across the line by Frankie Mullen in 52nd, Ashley Baker in 114th, Caroline Pinson in 143rd, Rebekah Talbert in 185th, and Sarah Pinson in 207th.

In the Class 1A girls race, Fort Campbell seventh grader Katie Lever was 17th.  Her sister Alli was 70th, and Belinda Young was 103rd.  As a team, Fort Campbell finished 12th.

Hannah Densmore led Dawson Springs with an 81st place finish.  The Lady Panthers finished 17th as a team.

In the 1A boys race, Levi Gibson was the first runner across from Fort Campbell in 35th place.  Brandon Blair finished in 112th place.  Fort Campbell's team took 20th place.

Colten Chapple was the first boys runner across for Dawson Springs in 35th place.

 

NCAA rules Enes Kanter ineligible to play at Kentucky

The NCAA has ruled that Enes Kanter is ineligible to play basketball for the University of Kentucky.  The ruling was made official this afternoon through a press release from the NCAA.

The main crux of the eligibility issue centered on benefits Kanter received while playing for a Turkish sport club.

According to the press release, Kanter played three seasons with the Turkish sport club Fenerbahce from 2006-07 to 2008-09. Although he competed primarily for the club’s under-18 junior team, he did compete on the club’s senior team in 2008-09. According to facts agreed to by the university and the NCAA Eligibility Center, Kanter received $33,033 more than his expenses for the 2008-09 season.  

The new NCAA rule that allows prospective student-athletes to compete on teams with professionals while maintaining their amateur status prior to college applies; however, the bylaw states any such benefits cannot exceed actual and necessary expenses, which was the case here.  

Kentucky has announced they plan to appeal the ineligibility ruling.

 

Kentucky announces 2011 football schedule

Even though Kentucky needs one win in their final two games to become bowl eligible for a fifth straight year, the final touches have been put on the 2011 football schedule, according to FBschedules.com.

The schedule includes a tough three-game stretch with Florida, LSU, and South Carolina in addition to a home game with Jacksonville State, one of the top FBS teams this year.  Also different is dropping Georgia between the Vandy and Tennessee games.

Byers qualifies for state cross country meet

Trigg County's Lynease Byers qualified for the state cross country meet after finishing seventh at the Class 2A, Region I Meet Saturday at Webster County.  Byers was the only Trigg County runner to qualify for the state meet.

Hopkinsville's Aunye Christian won the meet with a time of 20:40 over the 3.1-mile course.  Ashley Baker finished eighth, Frankie Mullen ninth.  Rebekah Talbert finished 18th for Hoptown, followed by Caroline Pinson in 22nd; and Sarah Pinson in 39th.

Kameo Bingham was the only other runner for Trigg County, finishing 43rd.

For the guys, Ethan Dossett was Trigg's top runner with a 33rd place finish.  J.B. Hendricks finished 40th; Garrett Brown 42nd; Regan Hyde 45th; Landon Sumner 51st; and Sebastian Skinner 52nd.

Hopkinsville finished third and qualified for the state meet as a team.  Leading the way for the Tigers were Kenny Longstreath in 8th place and James Northcutt in 13th place.

In Class 3A, Christian County's Sean Hurd took third place in the Region I Meet and qualified for the state meet along with teammate Jeff Binienda, who finished in 10th place.

In the girls' race, Katie Manzanares was Christian County's top runner with a 44th place finish.

In the Class A meet, Fort Campbell edged Murray to win the girls title.  Seventh grader Katie Lever won the race, while sister Alli Lever was third.  Hannah Densmore finished fourth for Dawson Springs.

Fort Campbell took third place in the boys race and will qualify for the state meet.  Levi Gibson took third place for Fort Campbell, while Brandon Blair was 13th.  Colton Chappel led Dawson Springs with a fourth place finish.

 

 

School from 'Remember the Titans' plays first home night game

T.C Williams High, the school made famous in the movie Remember the Titans, made history over the weekend when they played their first home Friday night game.  They beat South City 28-7. 

Since the school opened in 1965, the Titans have played road games on Friday nights or home games on Saturday afternoons.  On Friday, portable lights were brought in for the first home Friday night game for the school.  And members of the famous 1971 team were on hand also.

It's time for the KHSAA to classify soccer and volleyball

St. Henry beat Lexington Christian Academy Saturday to win the girls state soccer championship.  It was the first time since girls soccer began statewide in 1992 that a small school appeared in the state title game.  And while Saturday's title game doesn't help my argument any, it's time for the KHSAA to classify soccer and volleyball.

St. Henry's win over Lexington Christian marks the first time a small school has appeared in the soccer final.  It's also the first time a small school has appeared in the Final Four in the past decade.

In boys soccer, only once has a small school won the state title.  That came in 1975 when Kentucky Country Day took the title.  That was in a time when just a handful of schools fielded soccer teams.  Since then, only one small school has appeared in a title game (St. Henry 1999).  Only three times in the last decade has a small school even appeared in the state Final Four.

It's even worse in volleyball where no public school, let alone a small school, has ever appeared in the state finals.  Volleyball has been a sanctioned KHSAA sport since 1979 but has only become a true statewide sport in the past decade.

The KHSAA has taken some heat for expanding football to six classes to give schools a more equitable shot at a state title.  And they will never classify basketball because it would go against the tradition-rich and cash cow that is the Sweet Sixteen.  However, it's time for them to classify volleyball and soccer as well as softball and baseball to give the smaller schools the same chance at a state title that the football schools are given.

 

Fort Campbell 29 Trigg County 15

Trigg County's football season came to an end with a 29-15 loss at Fort Campbell in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Falcon quarterback Aaron Hills ran for three touchdowns and passed for a fourth as Fort Campbell won their 16th straight playoff game.  For the game, Hills ran 27 times for 153 yards.  He was 9-of-13 passing for 80 yards.  Tre Powell caught four passes for 28 yards.  He also had a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown called back on a bad blocking penalty.

For the game, Fort Campbell outgained Trigg 222-181.

Andrew Stewart led Trigg with 86 yards on 22 carries.  He scored both Trigg touchdowns.  Stewart was 4-of-19 passing for 40 yards.

Trigg trailed 9-7 at halftime and tied the game at 15 on a 3-yard run and conversion run by Stewart with 3:03 left in the third quarter. 

Fort Campbell answered on a 9-yard run by Hills with 1:36 left in the quarter to lead 22-15.

Trigg was driving, but Stewart was picked off at the 9-yard line with 5:44 left.  Hills answered with a 13-yard run five plays later that sealed the win.

Fort Campbell improved to 5-6 with the win and will play at Murray next week.

Trigg County's season ends with a record of 4-7.

NOTES FROM THE GAME:

• It was 41 degrees at kickoff.  It was 35 degrees when the game ended.
• It is Trigg County's first losing season since 1999 -- the longest stretch in school history without a losing record.
• It was Trigg's first opening round loss in the playoffs since a 75-35 loss to Monroe County in 2002.
• Fort Campbell has won eight of the last nine meetings with Trigg County and leads the all-time series 25-12, including a 15-5 record at Fryar Stadium.
• Tre Powell has four touchdown catches against Trigg County in the last two meetings.
• Powell's punt return for touchdown that was called back because of a penalty would have set a new state record for career punt returns for touchdowns.
• The 347 points allowed by Trigg County is the third most in program history behind the 1997 (394) and 1998 (515) teams.  The 31.5 points per game allowed is the fourth most in program history.
• Of the seven teams Trigg County lost to in 2010, five (Murray, Caldwell County, Ballard Memorial, Mayfield, and Fort Campbell) are still alive in the playoffs.  Hopkinsville missed the postseason, and Union City, Tennessee lost their opening round playoff game and finished with a 5-6 record.
• Trigg County finishes its 70th season of football with a career record of 340-375-15 (.467 win pct.).
• Andrew Stewart finished the season with 1,326 passing yards, good for 10th most in a season.  It is the 20th time in school history that a quarerback has topped 1,000 passing yards in a season.
• Ethan Sweno's seven field goals this year and eight for his career are both new school records.

 

 

Trigg County at Fort Campbell

The football playoffs begin tonight as Trigg County travels to Fort Campbell in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Both teams enter the game with 4-6 records.

The Falcons have won 15 straight playoff games and three straight Class 2A state championships, but it was Trigg County that last beat them in the postseason, winning 28-15 at Fryar Stadium in 2006.

Fort Campbell leads the all-time series 24-12 and has won seven of the last eight meetings.

Fans going to Fort Campbell need to enter through Gate Three and have their proper vehicle information ready.

In Class 1A, Mayfield hosts Caverna; Ballard Memorial travels to Kentucky Country Day; Fulton County heads to Louisville Holy Cross; and Crittenden County hosts Bethlehem.

In Class 3A, Butler County visits Paducah Tilghman; Webster County heads to Edmonson County; McLean County travels to Russellville; and Union County hosts Hart County.

In Class 4A, Warren East heads to Lone Oak; Calloway County visits Franklin-Simpson; and Hopkins County Central hosts Russell County.

In Class 5A, Christian County hosts Barren County in the first round for the second straight year.  The Colonels look to end a two-game losing streak tonight in the 7pm game at the Stadium of Champions.

Elsewhere, Madisonville visits Bowling Green; Warren Central hosts Ohio County; and Owensboro entertains Grayson County.

In Class 6A, Marshall County visits Louisville to play Fern Creek; Apollo also heads to Louisville.  They will play Male.  And Graves County will host Louisville Southern.

 

Hopkinsville soccer players named to all-state team

Hopkinsville girls' soccer player Payton Bucko has been named second team all-state in voting done by the state's soccer coaches.

Bucko was a senior defender for the Lady Tigers, who won their second straight region title last month.  She will represent the West Team in a statewide all-star game Nov. 13 at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville.

Hoptown's Bennett Peck, the school's all-time leading scorer, was named all-state honorable mention.

Also named to the all-state team were Maragret Thomas of Marshall County (first team), Whitney Young of Greenwood (second team), and Heath's Elizabeth McSparin, Marshall County's Tory Fehrenbacher, and Murray's Jaclyn Patterson (honorable mention).

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville's Chance Joyce was named boys' soccer all-state honorable mention based on voting by the state's coaches.  He will play in the East-West All-Star game Nov. 14 at Kentucky Country Day High School in Louisville.

It's the first time since 2006 that Hopkinsville has had a player selected all-state.

Chase Caldwell of Heath was named First Team All-State, while Zach Yonts of Madisonville and Jason Straub of Heath were named honorable mention.

Trigg County's cross country team competed Saturday in the Meet of Champions held in Lexington.

Lynease Byers took third place in the junior girls' race in a time of 21:23.  Kameo Bingham took 38th place in the race.

In the girls' fifth and sixth grade race, Anna Morgan finished 196th, followed by Elizabeth Redd in 233rd, Jordan Woodall in 293rd, and Kayla Bingham in 310th out of 389 runners.

In the Elementary school girls race, Emma Staples finished 33rd, Phelan Dossett 101st, Hannah Colbert 149th, and Carlee Adams 171st.

In the junior boys race, Landon Sumner finished in 108th place.  In the sophomore race, Garrett Brown was 55th.  Clark Adams took 43rd in the freshman race, while Brien Dossett was 46th.

In the fifth and sixth grade race, Caleb Martin was 258th.  Kyle Bleidt was 270th.

In the middle school race, Ethan Dossett took 70th place, J.B. Hendricks was 141st, Regan Hyde 211th, Sebastian Skinner 218th.

In the Elementary School race, Daniel Martin was 38th.  Alex Skinner was 138th.

Trigg County will run in the Class 2A, Region I Meet Saturday at Webster County.
