The Second Region Volleyball Tournament gets underway tonight at Henderson County with two games on tap.
Seventh District champ and defending region champ Caldwell County hosts Fifth District runner-up Trigg County at 6pm. The two former district mates are meeting in the region tourney for the first time. Caldwell County is 31-3 and is 14-0 against region opponents this year. The Lady Tigers have won two of the last three region titles.
Trigg County (7-15) is in the region tournament for the fourth time and the first since 2005. Trigg has never won a game in three previous appearances.
At 7:15pm, Sixth District champ Henderson County (18-16) plays Eighth District runner-up Fort Campbell (17-10). The teams did not meet during the regular season and haven't played each other since the 2007 region tournament.
The first round continues Tuesday at 6pm with Eighth District champ Christian County (27-10) playing Sixth District runner-up Union County (11-16). The Lady Colonels are looking for their first win in the region tournament in three years. Christian and Union did not play each other this season.
In the 7:15pm nightcap, Fifth District champ Livingston Central (15-14) plays Seventh District runner-up Madisonville (19-16). The teams split their two regular season contests.
The semifinals will be played Wednesday at 6pm and 7:15pm with the championship game set for Thursday at 7pm.
All games are at Henderson County High School, and tickets are five dollars.
