Trigg County scored a season-high 67 points but couldn't stop Caldwell County in the paint and lost to the Lady Tigers 79-67 Monday night in the first round of the Second Region Tournament at Madisonville.
The 67 points was also the most scored by Trigg County in 10 career region tourney games.
However, Caldwell County 17-of-26 from the field (65%) in the second half and 54-percent for the game.
Trigg wasn't exactly misfiring from the field, shooting 57-percent in the second half and an even 50-percent for the game.
Caldwell won the game at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-25 (76%) compared to 6-for-6 for Trigg County. Caldwell was whistled for just 11 fouls in the game.
Trigg County jumped out to a 15-6 lead but went scoreless over a 3:17 stretch that saw Caldwell outscore them 11-0 and take a 17-15 lead.
Caldwell extended the lead to 30-23 before Trigg scored the final five points to cut the lead to 30-28 at intermission.
Jacquelyn Sindelar scored five points to spark a 9-0 run for Caldwell to start the second half and go up 39-28. Trigg cut the lead to 42-37 but Caldwell answered with a 12-4 run to put the game away.
Janada Acree scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in her final game as a Lady Wildcat. Sophomore Ashley Matlock added 14 points and eight assists. Trinity Wortham joined them in double figures with 11 points.
Caldwell County's starters did all of their scoring and reached double figures. Emily Meeks scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Casey Stone added 17 points and Sindelar added 16 points. They combined for 52 of Caldwell's 79 points. In Trigg County's 51-49 win over Caldwell last month, that trio combined to score just 17 points.
Trigg County's season is over with a record of 10-16 -- the most wins in a season since 2003.
Caldwell County improved to 19-8 and will play Henderson County in Friday's semifinals. The four-time defending region champion crushed Hopkinsville 84-38 in the biggest first round blowout in the region tourney in five years. Alyse Poindexter had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Henderson County, while Marla Boyd and Tori Beth Nolan each scored 13 points for Hopkinsville.
