Trigg County claimed their first district title since 1990 with a 51-46 win over Crittenden County Thursday night at Wildcat Gym.
The Lady Wildcats became the first team to win the district title as a #4 seed since the district began seeding for the tournament in 1986.
Janada Acree scored six of Trigg County's eight points in overtime, including a layup with five seconds left that sealed the win. The bucket was her 22nd point of the night and gives her 1,000 points for her career. She joins Christy Samsil as the only TCHS girls player to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.
The senior finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Trigg County led 43-37 with 1:07 left in regulation, but a missed shot and turnover allowed Crittenden to score a bucket and a free throw to pull to within 43-40. Jessi Hodge hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds to tie the game and send it to overtime tied at 43.
Crittenden was held without a field goal in the overtime while Trigg County hit four of their five attempts.
Ashley Matlock added 17 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, and Trinity Wortham added six points and four assists.
Hodge led Crittenden County (12-8) with 17 points, while Jessica Cozart added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Trigg County shot 48-percent (16/33) from the field in the second half and overtime, while Crittenden shot just 29-percent.
The overtime game was the first in a district title contest since 1983.
The Lady Wildcats are now 10-15 on the year and have reached double digits in wins for the first time since 2003.
The district title is the fourth for the school, with other titles won in 1980, 1982, and 1990.

Trigg County had three players named to the All-District team, which is based on regular season play. Janada Acree, Ashley Matlock, and Brooke Kearney were joined on the team by Jessi Hodge and Jessica Cozart of Crittenden County; Aneta Sloma, Mariah Owen, and Laken Woodward of Livingston Central; and Rachel Rhodes and Aubrey Riggs of Lyon County.
Somebody is going to end a long district title drought tonight at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg County has not won a district championship since 1990. Crittenden County hasn't won a title since 1984. The two teams square off for the title tonight at 7pm at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg County (9-15) beat top seed Livingston Central 57-50 Monday night, while Crittenden County (11-7) beat Lyon County 48-38.
Crittenden County won both regular season meetings -- 56-50 on Dec. 12 at Wildcat Gym and 70-46 Jan. 2 in Marion.
Crittenden County has won five straight games over the Lady Wildcats and lead the all-time series 45-32. The last time Trigg and Crittenden played in the district tournament was 2005, which was a 55-52 Trigg win.
Trigg County has won seven of eight career meetings with Crittenden County in the district tournament. Their only meeting in a championship game was 1980 when Trigg County won 71-44.
It marks the first time since 1980 that Trigg County's boys and girls are playing in a district championship in the same season.

Samantha Butts is off to a fast start for the Austin Peay women's softball team, as she was named to the all-tournment team of the War Eagle Classic in Auburn over the weekend.
The freshman right fielder hit .364 for the weekend, scored twice, drive in two runs, and hit her first collegiate home run. Samantha is one of the few bright spots for a Lady Governor team that's off to an 0-8 start.
Samantha is the daughter of Stevie and Sharon Butts of Cadiz.

District tournament action gets underway across the state Monday night, where it's lose and go home.
In the Fifth District, the ladies kick things off at Wildcat Gym. In the opener, top seed Livingston Central (8-13) plays #4 seed Trigg County (8-15) at 6pm.
The Lady Cardinals are limping into the postseason having lost nine of their last 11 games. One of those wins was a 62-55 conquest of Trigg County Jan. 16 in Smithland. Livingston also won the December matchup 65-45 in Cadiz.
Livingston Central is the defending district champion, while Trigg County is a four seed for the third straight year. Trigg County is trying to end a 19 year district title drought and advance to the district title game for the first time since 1996.
In the 8pm nightcap, Lyon County (6-15) and Crittenden County (10-7) will play for the fourth time this year. Lyon County won an overtime thriller in December on a last second shot, while Crittenden County won two games in January, the latter coming in the All-A Classic Region Tournament.
Crittenden County is the only team in the district with a winning record, while Lyon County has dropped 13 of their last 14 games heading into this week. However, Crittenden County has not won a district title since 1984 and have not won a first round tournament game since 2002.

In the Sixth District Tournament at Henderson County, Webster County (20-6) and Union County (8-19) square off in a ladies' semifinal, with the winner to face Henderson County in Thursday's championship. Webster beat Union by 28 and 8 points during the season.
In the Seventh District at Caldwell County, the homestanding Lady Tigers (17-7) will play Dawson Springs (1-18) at 6pm. Caldwell beat Dawson three times during the season by an average of 30 points.
In the 7:45pm nightcap, it will be the guys' turn as Hopkins County Central (20-8) will play a Dawson Springs team (6-17) they beat 87-42 ten days ago.
In the 8th District at Christian County High School, Hopkinsville (13-9) and University Heights (8-18) renew their ladies' rivalry that has become one of the more heated ones in the region. Hoptown beat UHA 48-40 on Jan. 15 and 51-36 on Jan. 31. The winner will advance to play Christian County in Wednesday night's championship game.

Kentucky plays at Vanderbilt tonight with the main focus on Jodie Meeks and UK's rise to the top of the SEC East standings.

Expect Jeannine Edwards to again be patrolling the sidelines tonight and expect her to corner Wildcat head coach Billy Gillispie at halftime with what he will deem to be another round of bad questions.

Trigg County will try and end a three-game losing streak tonight when they host Dawson Springs at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg beat the Panthers 85-72 back on Jan. 12, outscoring them 50-38 to get the win.
Trigg leads the all-time series with Dawson Springs 50-25, including a 25-9 record against them at Wildcat Gym. Trigg has won 13 straight games against the Panthers dating back to 2000.

University Heights put together string second and third quarters and beat Trigg County 57-41 Thursday night in Hopkinsville. The game was rescheduled from last week, and the St. Mary game originally scheduled for Thursday was moved to Tuesday.
UHA outscored Trigg County 13-6 in the second quarter and 18-9 in the third quarter for the difference in the game, which was Trigg's first since Jan. 24.
Perhaps the most startling stat of the game was UHA's advantage at the free throw line. The Lady Blazers were 19-of-30 (63-percent), while Trigg County was just o-for-1. Trigg County was called for 21 fouls, while UHA was called for just 10 in the contest.
Audrey Futrell hit four 3-pointers and finished with a season-high 12 points, while Ashley Matlock added 11 points and six rebounds. Janada Acree scored eight points, blocked six shots, and grabbed 11 rebounds.
University Heights (7-13) got 22 points from Sara Allen and 15 points and eight rebounds from Hadley Burns.
Trigg County (5-12) will play at Logan County Saturday.
