Livingston Central used a big early run, while Trigg answered with a big run late, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Cardinals wrapped up the top seed in the district tournament with a 62-55 win over Trigg County Friday night in Smithland.
After falling behind 4-0, Livingston Central used a 26-3 run to take control of the game and lead 34-17 at halftime.
Up 48-23 with 1:59 left in the third quarter, Trigg County responded with a 26-7 run of their own to pull to within 55-49 with 1:52 left in the game.
However, Livingston Central hit 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter and 23-of-28 (82%) for the game.
Janada Acree and Brooke Kearney combined to score 12 straight points to spearhead the Trigg run. Kearney had eight points and Acree six during the run.
Acree finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Kearney had 13 points and six rebounds. They also combined to block nine shots.
Mariah Owen led Livingston Central with 18 points, including 8-of-9 at the free throw line. Laken Woodward added 17 points.
Livingston Central wrapped up the top seed in the district tournament with a 5-1 mark. Trigg County has a 1-5 district record and will see the Lady Cardinals again in the district tournament that begins Feb. 24 at Wildcat Gym.
