Union County used a strong first half to power past Trigg County 59-44 Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Gym.
The Lady Braves led 17-8 after one quarter and 31-16 at halftime. They led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter before Trigg scored some late baskets to trim the final margin to 15 points.
Madison Dayberry scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half, which included four 3-pointers. Lauren Parrish added 11 points for Union County, who was playing their season opener.
Brooke Kearney led Trigg County with 14 points, while Janada Acree joined her in double figures with 11 points and five rebounds. Elysia Brown scored six points, grabbed six rebounds, and had three steals.
Trinity Wortham and Ashley Matlock each scored five points for the Lady Wildcats, who slip to 1-2 on the season.
A bright spot for Trigg County was their free throw shooting, where they hit 19-of-26 (73%).
It was only the sixth time the schools have met and first since 1993. Union County leads the series 4-2 with Trigg's last win against Union coming in 1992.
Trigg County returns to action Friday against Crittenden County at Wildcat Gym.
