Trigg County used a 17-2 first half run to beat Ballard Memorial 75-61 Saturday in the first round of the Kentucky Machine and Engineering Classic at Wildcat Gym.
The Wildcats also had a 14-1 run later in the game to build a 25-point second half lead before settling for the 14-point win.
After a poor defensive effort in their loss to Lyon County the previous night, Trigg County's defense forced 24 Bomber turnovers that led to 28 Trigg County points.
As a result, Trigg County took 17 more shots than Ballard Memorial.
The Wildcats had five players score in double figures, led by Jonathon King's 21 points. Shelton Burress scored 14 points, had four assists, and three steals and was named the player of the game.
Dustin White and Zeke Wright each had 11 points and six rebounds, while Bradley Davis added 10 points and five steals.
Jay Middleton led Ballard Memorial (4-3) with 25 points and eight rebounds.
The game was the first meeting between the two schools on the basketball court.
Trigg County will play Fulton County Monday at 11am and Butler County at 7pm. If Trigg wins both games, they will play in the championship game Tuesday night.
