Christian County hung tough for three quarters, but Highlands continually had answers for the Colonels' drives and came away with a 35-15 win in the Class 5A state championship game Friday night in Louisville.
The Cols had a 9-7 lead right before halftime, but the Bluebirds answered quickly inside the final minute of half to take a 15-9 lead. However, Daniel Gold's touchdown catch appeared to hit the ground first but was ruled a catch.
Highlands took a 21-9 lead on their first possession of the second half, but VaShun Banks scored on a 14-yard run to make the score 21-15 with 4:05 left in the third quarter.
However, Highlands then scored two touchdowns in a five minute span of the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Christian County quarterback James Bauer completed 14-of-26 passes for 187 yards and ran for 68 yards on 17 carries. Vashun Banks rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries and two scores, and Bubba Tandy caught seven passes for 79 yards. David Wallace added five catches for 86 yards.
On defense, Adrian Booker had six tackles and a sack, and Jordan Manning added five tackles.
For Highlands, quarterback Tony Guidugli completed two-of-four passes for 60 yards and ran for 103 yards on nine carries. Josh Conner added 121 yards on 16 carries.

Christian County's season ends with a record of 13-2, while Highlands (14-1) ties a state record with their 18th state title.
