Trigg County's seniors played a big role in their 3-0 Senior Night win over Reidland tonight at the Complex.

Abigail Torian was moved from defense into midfield and responded with two goals.  Laykn Brooks scored off a penalty shot in the 75th minute, and Danni Romero had four saves to record the shut out in goal.

"This was the first time we have beaten them and while I don't think they were the strongest Reidland team we have faced, it was a good win. In fact, they had two great chances on us but solid play from our back line led to two would be goals being cleared off the line by our defense," said Lady Wildcat head coach Josh Nichols.

Seniors Hanna Oliver and Kris Kruse were honored along with Brooks, Torian, and Romero.

Trigg County improved to 7-7-1 with the win.

Trigg County 10 Dawson Springs 0

Trigg County wrapped up the top seed in the district tournament with a 10-0 win over Dawson Springs Monday night at the Complex.

Roman Cail had three goals and three assists in the game, tying the school record for assists in a game.  Lucas Chesnut, T.C. Bush, and Justin Cain (twice) also had three assists.

Trevor Harper and Jeremy Stamps also had hat tricks in the game, marking the first time Trigg County had three players score hat tricks in a single game. 

John Reinick added Trigg's 10th goal, while Joel Ben Thomas and Jared Stallons had assists.

The 10-goal margin was Trigg's highest since a 2001 district tournament win over Christian Fellowship.

Trigg's JV also won 2-0.

The win as Trigg County's tenth straight and pushes their record to 13-1-1.

University Heights 2 Trigg County 1

Sara Allen scored two goals to lead University Heights past Trigg County 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Hopkinsville.

Allen's goals gave the Lady Blazers a new school record for goals in a season (72).

Kelci Winn scored Trigg County's lone goal in the second half.

UHA improved to 10-3-1 with the win, which has won five of the six career meetings with Trigg.  The other game ended in a tie.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 6-7-1 on the season.

UHA won the JV game 4-0 behind two goals from Conner East.

Trigg County 61 Reidland 0

Friday's game with Reidland went pretty much the way the previous six have -- a Trigg blowout.

The Wildcats scored three times inside the game's first seven minutes and rolled to a 61-0 win over the Greyhounds at Perdue Field.

Trigg piled up 427 yards of offense, including 315 rushing yards on 29 carries.  Brandon Bridges had 138 yards on 11 carries.  He scored on runs of 9, 15, and 3, and caught a 45-yard screen pass from Andrew Stewart.

Antonio Grubbs added 83 yards on two carries, including a 73-yard touchdown run.

Trigg led 21-0 after one quarter, 35-0 at halftime, and 55-0 after three quarters.

Even more impressive was the Trigg County defense that held Reidland to minus-22 yards of total offense.  Reidland had minus-58 yards rushing and 36 yards passing.

Trigg County improves to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the district.  Reidland falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in district play.

Trigg County has this week off and returns to action Oct. 10 at Heath.

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE GAME...

• The game was the 700th in the history of the Trigg County football program.  Trigg County is 325-360-15 (.475) in 68 seasons of football.
• The 61-point win is the fourth-largest in school history and the highest since a 62-0 shutout of Reidland in 2003. 
• Five of Trigg County's largest margins of wins have come against Reidland.
• It marked the ninth time Trigg County has scored 60 points in a game.  Seven of the nine have occurred in the last eight years.
• Reidland's minus-58 yards rushing breaks the old mark of minus-54 for a Wildcat opponent, held by Lone Oak in a 1971 game.
• Trigg County's last shutout came against Reidland last year.
• Trigg County is now 14-2 all-time against Reidland.  They have won the last seven games over Reidland by a total score of 373-20, an average of 53-3.
• Hunter Allen scored a touchdown on his first career carry, a 2-yard quarterback sneak with 1:24 left in the game.
• Shelton Burress scored his first career touchdown on a 25-yard run with 9:40 left in the third quarter.
• John Reinick's streak of 14 consecutive successful PATs to start the season ended when a third quarter attempt missed wide right.  Reinick is 16-of-17 on PATs now.
• Reidland's time of possession was 28:13 to run 48 plays.  Trigg County's time of possession was 19:47 to run 42 plays.

Elementary runners at the St. Mary meet

The good thing about e-mailing me pictures is that I get to post them on here if they are appropriate to the purpose of the blog.

The bad news about e-mail is the spam filter.  Sometimes good e-mail gets held up in the filter.

This is one of those e-mails.

I was checking the filter, full of of watch offers, natural enhancement, Britney Spears videos, and drug pill offers.  And there were a few good ones that got hung up in there.

At the St. Mary Invitational last weekend, Ethan Dossett finished in 1st place in the elementary race in a time of 6:07.  Reagan Hyde finished in 3rd place in 6:43; Tyler Estes finished in 4th place in 6:49; and Demaria Nance came across in 5th place in 6:53.

Trigg County took a step closer to gaining the top seed in the district tournament with a 3-2 win Thursday night at the Complex.

The Lady Wildcats got off to a fast start when Kelci Winn took a Laykn Brooks pass and scored three minutes into the game.

Kelsey Martin of Lyon County tied the game at 1-1 at the 16:00 mark when she scored off an assist from Stephanie Gray.

Paige McKinney gave Lyon County a 2-1 lead at the 34:00 mark of the first half when she poked in a goal that just cleared the top crossbar.

Brooks gave Trigg County some momentum when she scored off a Winn pass two minutes before halftime.

Winn banged home a rebound at the 58:00 mark that turned out to be the game-winner.

Danni Romero had nine saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats, who even their record at 6-6-1 on the season.

Lyon County fell to 5-4-2.

Trigg County won the JV game 3-0.

The Lady Wildcats play at University Heights Saturday afternoon at 1:30.

• Christian County shut out St. Mary 2-0. 

Trigg County 4 Caldwell County 2

Trigg County beat Caldwell County 4-2 Thursday night in Princeton.

Jeremy Stamps headed in a pass from John Reinick to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.

After Caldwell County tied it midway through the half, Devon Wharton headed in another pass from Reinick to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

After Caldwell County scored first in the second half, Stamps scored his second goal of the game off a pass from Trevor Harper for a 3-2 lead.

Trigg put the game out of reach on a rebound goal by Jared Stallons.

"Sam Reed played a great game on defense and Ezra McNichols was solid.  The guys all played their hearts out," said Wildcat head coach Josh Nichols.

Trigg County improves to 12-1-1 and will host Dawson Springs Monday.

Results from the Trigg County Rotary Club/Fenton Dawson Memorial Invitational

Over 200 runners took part in the annual Trigg County Rotary Club/Fenton Dawson Memorial Cross Country Invitational Thursday at the Lake Barkley Airport Course.

Trigg County won the Middle School boys' race behind a 1-2 finish from Romaine Cunningham and Ethan Dossett. 

Cunningham's time was 15:48 over the 2.4-mile course, while Dossett finished in 16:58.  Debo Mayes was 7th in 17:51, Garrett Brown 10th in 18:28, Brian Dossett 13th in 18:52, Reagan Hyde 14th in 18:55, J.B. Hendricks 17th in 19:12, Corbin Estes 18th in 19:14, David Morgan 23rd in 19:49, and Adam Calhoun  29th in 21:01.

Other runners were Brandon Scott (Christian County) third in 17:29; Chance Reagan (Christian County) fourth in 17:43; Matthew Johnson (CC) 9th in 18:21; Alex Lancaster (CC) 12th in 18:40; Donte White (CC) 15th in 18:56; Logan Scott (CC) 19th in 19:15; Jonathon Beymer (CC) 24th in 19:50; Will May (Hopkinsville) 26th in 20:01; and Kendall Lancaster (CC) 28th in 20:48.

Trigg won the team trophy with 33 points, while Christian County was second with 39 points, Graves County was third (74), and Calloway County fourth with 143 points.

In the girls' middle school race, Kelsey Desrochers was Trigg's first runner across the line in 12th place in 25:09.  Stephanie Thomas was 13th in 25:42; and Brooklyn Meador was 18th in 26:45.

Other runners were Kate Manzaneres (Christian County) third place in 20:32; Rachel Snyder (CC) fourth in 20:33; Karalyn Beymer (CC) seventh in 23:36; Brooke Lynn Meacham (CC) eighth in 23:38; Kara Orten (CC) 24:00; Katricka Wilson (Hopkinsville) 14th in 25:59; and Paige Stallons (Hopkinsville) 19th in 26:51.

Hannah Lamb of Graves County won the race in a time of 19:16.

Graves County won the team title with 29 points, followed by Christian County in second with 31 points.  Calloway County (95) was third and Hopkinsville was fourth (114).

In the girls' varsity race, Lynease Byers of Trigg County finished second for the second straight year in a time of 21:26.  Fort Campbell's Kaycee Grimes won the race in a time of 20:44.

Alex Olin finished 12th in 24:13, while Macey King was 16th in 24:41.  Diasia Acree was 40th in 29:31, Monica Jones was 42nd in 29:55, and Rachel Cronin was 57th in 37:57.

Other runners were Ashley Gibson (Fort Campbell) 7th place in 23:21; Morgan Dunlevy (Fort Campbell) 21st in 25:14; Alex Lamb (Fort Campbell) was 23rd in 25:27; Lindsey Horton (Fort Campbell) 31st in 26:32; Jackie Pierson (FC) 35th in 27:46; Aunye Christian (Hopkinsville) 41st in 29:54; Shikeya Miller (Hopkinsville) 43rd in 30:31; Paiton Kemp (Hopkinsville) 47th in 32:18; and Natalie Majors (Hopkinsville) 48th in 32:18.

Graves County won the team trophy with 41 points.  Fort Campbell was second with 83 poins, followed by Murray in third with 91; Dawson Springs fourth with 94 points, Clarksville Northwest fifth with 98 poins, Trigg County sixth with 112 points, and Hopkinsville seventh with 228 points.

In the boys' varsity race, Jay Jolly led Trigg County with a 19th place finish in a time of 19:05.  Jakelzie Martin was 47th in a time of 22:06 followed by Depaul Hendrix 52nd in 23:01, Matt Savage 53rd in 23:01; and Raymond Cronin 63rd in 25:16.

Sean Hurd of Christian County won the race for the second straight year in a time of 16:41, beating Fort Campbell's Tony Duran by 12 seconds.

Other runners were Darrell Napier (FC) 4th in 17:19; Danny Johnson (Christian County) 8th in 18:29; Scott Hill (FC) 11th in 18:39; Shane Veleto (FC) 18th in 19:02; Roman Roman (CC) 21st in 19:09; Matt Moorefield 26th in 19:45; Dee Leavell (CC) 28th in 19:51; Zack Green (FC) 29th in 19:54; and Carnell Croney (Hopkinsville) 36th in 20:41.

Northwest won the team competition with 35 points, followed by Fort Campbell with 64 points, Murray (69) was third; Christian County (84) was fourth; Graves County (147) was fifth; Trigg County (234) was sixth; Fulton County was seventh with 255 points, and Hopkinsville eighth with 267 points.

• Hurd is the second straight boys' runner to repeat as TC Invitational champ.  Joe Corneo of Northwest won back-to-back titles in 2005-06.  He is also the third race winner from Christian County in the past six years.
• Hurd missed the course record by nine seconds.
• Graves County won the girls' title for the sixth straight year, establishing a new invitational record.
• Romaine Cunningham has not lost a middle school race this year.
• Kaycee Grimes is the first Fort Campbell runner to win the TC Inv. Charis Botelho in 2002.
• There were 26 fewer runners in the meet than last year.

Ethan Dossett took second place in the middle school race.

Kelsey Desrochers was Trigg's first girl across in the middle school race in 12th place.

Stephanie Thomas had a strong run to the finish line.  She finished 13th in the middle school race.

Trigg County had a couple of nice kicks to the finish in the middle school race.

          

Livingston Central 2 Trigg County 1

Trigg County dropped their fifth straight game Thursday, falling to Livingston Central 16-25, 25-13, 21-25 at Wildcat Gym.

The loss drops the Lady Wildcats to 10-18 on the season and 0-6 in district play.  It also dropped Trigg to 5-5 in matches that go three sets.  Livingston Central is now 6-11.

The Lady Wildcats will host Hopkinsville next Thursday.

Trigg County 2 Hopkinsville 2

Trigg County overcame a 2-0 deficit and forged a tie with one of the region's top teams Tuesday night.  The Lady Wildcats tied Hopkinsville 2-2 and ended the Lady Tigers' six-game winning streak.

Bennett Peck scored off a pass from Abbey Pace 30 minutes into the game for the lone goal of the first half.  Peck then fed Payton Bucko in the 66th minute for a 2-0 Hoptown lead.

Trigg County added a goal a few minutes later on a free kick from Taylor Davis.  Laykn Brooks scored on a breakaway with five minutes left to tie the game.

Katie Davis had 11 saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats.

"I really liked what I saw from the girls tonight, and if they keep it going into Thursday, I like our chances to be as competitive with Lyon as we have ever been," Lady Wildcat head coach Mike Smith said.

Hopkinsville won the JV game 4-1 behind a hat trick from Lexie Bozell.

Trigg County is now 5-6-1 on the season while Hopkinsville is 10-2-1.

Trigg hosts Lyon County Thursday.

Trigg County 7 Lyon County 0

Trigg County tied a school record with their eighth straight win, knocking off Lyon County 7-0.  It marked Trigg's largest margin of victory over the Lyons in 38 career meetings.

Trigg led 2-0 at halftime and scored five goals in the second for the final margin.

Jared Stallons had two goals, while Trevor Harper, Joel Ben Thomas, Devon Wharton, and Jeremy Stamps had the other goals.

Thomas, Harper, Roman Cail, Zach Adams, and Jeremy Butts (2) had the assists.

We played a much better second half than first and we overwhelmed them as the game went on.  We were able to do a lot of subbing and everyone who went in played well," said Wildcat head coach Josh Nichols. 

Josh Green pitched another shutout in goal for the Wildcats, who swept Lyon County in the regular season for the first time since 1993.

The Wildcats are now 11-1-1 and have allowed just two goals in their last four games.  Trigg County will travel to Caldwell County Thursday.

In other games tonight:

• Hertitage Christian Academy beat Glasgow Christian 5-0.  Ryan Harris had two goals, while Celeste Tierny, Joe Alvarado, and Alex Little each had one.
• Luke Carpenter, Harris, Alvarado, Andy Knight, and Connor Alexander had the assists, and Dan Ligibel had the shutout in goal.  HCA is now 8-2.
• Hopkins County Central and Hopkinsville tied 1-1
• Marshall County edged Fort Campbell 4-3.

Christian County 2 Trigg County 0

Christian County claimed a straight set win over Trigg County in volleyball action Tuesday night, winning 25-18, 25-15.

LaKeysha Jones had a strong night serving for Trigg County, getting 17 of 18 inside the lines with two aces.  Morgan Parker was 8-of-9 hitting at the net with two kills, and Kelly Bradshaw was 35-of-38 passing, while Stephanie Graves was 18-of-20 passing.

For Christian County,

Casey Castile had 8 kills.

Kayla Wade had 11 assists.

Michelle O'Quinn had 3 kills and 1 ace.

Kristi O'Quinn had 4 blocks and 2 aces

Cheyenne Willis had 4 blocks and 1 ace.

Carly P'Pool had 3 blocks and 1 ace.

Taylor Queen had an .810 passing percentage.

Trigg County won the JV game 22-20, 21-15.

The Lady Wildcats fall to 10-17 on the season and will host Livingston Central Thursday.  Christian County is 18-11 and will play at Kenwood Saturday afternoon.

In other games tonight:

• Fort Campbell beat Hopkinsville 25-8, 25-20 as Kayleigh Faulkner had six kills and a block.  Erin Simoneau had three kills, and Anna Benjamin had six assists.

10. November 12, 2005 - Washington at Arizona -- Huskies quarterback Isaiah Stanback launches a 69-yard pass to Craig Chambers as the first half expired, helping Washington score the final 31 points of a 38-14 win over the Wildcats.  The play covered 69 yards, and the pass appeared to fly 71 yards in the air.

9. October 16, 2004 - Texas A&M at Oklahoma State -- Another half-ender as Reggie McNeal launches one toward the end zone that is executed to perfection and is tipped into the hands of DeQuan Mobley.  The Aggies went on to knock off the 16th ranked Cowboys 36-20.  The play covered 55 yards, while McNeal's heave covered 58 yards.

8. October 14, 2006 - Arkansas State at Memphis -- This one gets bonus points for two reasons.  One, it won a game on the road.  There are few better feelings in sports than to silence the crowd in someone else's house.  And of course, the homer call on the video.  Patrick Higgins' 53-yard pass was pulled down by Corey Leonard, giving the Red Wolves a 26-23 win at Memphis.  The pass appeared to cover 68 yards in the air.

7. September 13, 2008 - Temple at Buffalo -- Drew Willy found Naaman Rooselvelt on a 35-yard game-winner as the Bulls stunned Temple 30-28 on the game's final play.  The throw appeared to cover 49 yards.

6. November 16, 2001 - Benedictine College vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State -- Benedictine College needed a miracle and received some divine intervention as Matt Fowler hauled in this prayer from Myles Bacon with no time on the clock to give the Ravens their first NAIA playoff win in nine years, 29-27 over the defending NAIA runner-ups.  The play covered 50 yards.  The camera angle doesn't help in determining how far the ball was flung, but the guess here is 55-60 yards.

5. 1980 Holiday Bowl - BYU vs. SMU - Down 45-25 to the Eric Dickerson/Craig James led Mustangs, BYU quarterback Jim McMahon engineered a fourth quarter comeback to lead the Cougars to a 46-45 win.  McMahon hit tight end Clay Brown in the end zone as time expired.  The entire comeback is included in this video, but you can fast forward to the 3:10 mark to see the pass.  The play covered 41 yards, and the pass, which McMahon seemed to heave flat-footed, covered 58 yards in the air.

4. October 14, 1989 - Southern Mississippi at Louisville -- In a foreshadowing of future NFL Hall of Fame career, Southern Mississippi quarterback Brett Favre was staring down 79 yards with a handful of seconds left in a 10-10 tie with Louisville.  Favre scrambled, was hit, stayed on his feet and launched a prayer that bounced off the helmet of Golden Eagle receiver Michael Jackson and was hauled down by Darryl Tillman, who scampered in the remaining 35 yards for the win.  The play covered 79 yards, and Favre's pass appeared to fly 54 yards.

3. November 9, 2002 - LSU at Kentucky (The Bluegrass Miracle) -- This hail mary ranks high only because of its bizarreness.  Kentucky appears on their way to upsetting #14 LSU and Nick Saban in Lexington.  UK takes a 30-27 lead with 11 seconds on the clock.  After getting to the 26-yard line and calling timeout with two seconds left, Kentucky coach Guy Morriss gets a Gatorade bath from his players.  Marcus Randall took the final snap and launched a missile down field.  The Kentucky fans stormed the field in jubilation.  The football glanced off the hands of Tiger receiver Michael Clayton and into the waiting mitts of teammate Devery Henderson, who ran past two UK players and into the end zone.  There were still UK fans running on the field and celebrating, only to see the Tiger players maul Henderson in the end zone.  The Jefferson Pilot broadcast displayed the score on the screen as a UK win, and fireworks went off at Commonwealth Stadium.  There were even UK fans on the goalposts trying to take them down while LSU was celebrating their win on the field (UK football fans have never been known for their wealth of football knowledge).  To add insult to injury, The Bluegrass Miracle won the ESPY for "Best Play."  The play covered 74 yards, while Randall's prayer went 60 yards in the air.

2. September 24, 1994 - Colorado at Michigan -- In what is considered the biggest hail mary pass since Doug Flutie, Colorado's Kordell Stewart chucked a pass an incredible 74 yards in the air.  Even more incredible was Michael Westbrook making the catch at the other end to give the Buffaloes a 27-26 win in Ann Arbor.  The pass deflected off Blake Anderson and right to Westbrook, in a play known as the Miracle at Michigan.  Making the play even more special was the call of ABC's Keith Jackson.

1. November 23, 1984 - Boston College at Miami -- Simply known as Hail Flutie.  I know what you're thinking. It's gotta be a cliche to put Doug Flutie at the top of the list after all these years.  However, the magnitude of Gerard Phelan's catch lingered for years.  BC and Miami hooked up in a classic before a national TV audience.  While Flutie was considered the favorite to win the Heisman trophy, this hail mary may have sealed the Berwanger Trophy for the diminutive quarterback.  Trailing 45-41 with six seconds left, Flutie took the snap and rolled out to the right.  He launched a pass toward the end zone that somehow went between the arms of Hurricane "defenders" Darrell Fullington and Reggie Sutton and found Phelan two yards deep in the end zone.  Behind the Stanford/Cal "The Play", it's likely the most replayed touchdown on TV in college football.  "Hail Flutie" covered "only" 52 yards, but his throw went 65 yards in the air.

Midcats host Christian County tonight

The Trigg County Midcats host Christian County tonight in a football doubleheader that will also serve as their homecoming at Perdue Field.

The 8th grade team is 3-1, while the 7th graders are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 69-8 this year.

The 7th grade game starts at 5:30, with the 8th graders playing around 6:30.

Trigg County at Hopkinsville

Trigg County will take on one of the top scoring teams in the state in Hopkinsville tonight at the Stadium of Champions.

The Lady Tigers are 10-2 and have scored 61 goals in 12 games (5.0 goals a game).  Sophomores Bennett Peck (23 goals) and Payton Bucko (17 goals) have combined for 40 goals this season.

The Lady Wildcats are 0-4-1 against Hopkinsville all-time, with last year's game ending in a 1-1 tie.

Trigg County is 5-6 and looking for their third straight win tonight.

• Todd County plays at Barren County
• Fort Campbell visits Crittenden County

One game from Monday:

• Lyon County scored in the game's final minute to force a 3-3 tie with University Heights.  Sara Allen had all three of UHA's goals as the Lady Blazers are now 8-3-1.  Shelby Mack and Jessica Harper each had assists for UHA.  Lyon County is now 5-3-2.

Trigg County at Christian County

Trigg County will travel to Colonel Gym tonight to play Christian County and go against their former coach, Rick Erickson.

The Lady Wildcats are 10-16 on the season, while Christian County is 17-11.  The teams played one other time this year, with Christian County claiming a 25-19, 25-11 win at the Caldwell County SlamFest Sept. 6.

Christian County will be hosting 10 years of Christian County volleyball tonight as they will recognize former players and coaches.

In action Monday night, Christian County beat Hopkins County Central 25-13, 25-13 at Colonel Gym.

Trigg County at Lyon County

Trigg County looks to tie a school record with their eighth consecutive win tonight when they travel to Eddyville to play Lyon County.

The Wildcats beat the Lyons 4-0 back on Aug. 28.

The only other time Trigg County has won eight straight games was in the 2001 season.

The Wildcats are 10-1-1 on the season, while Lyon County is 2-8-1.

• Hopkins County Central (1-10) travels to Hopkinsville (3-7-1)
• Fort Campbell (7-4) plays at Marshall County (7-1-2)

• Mike Massie scored two goals as Fort Campbell beat Franklin-Simpson 2-1.  Aldo Torres assisted on one of the goals, and Bryce Whitson had five saves to record the shutout in goal. 
• Todd County and Butler County played to a 2-2 tie.

Wildcat Scramble winners

The team of Jim Strelec, Terry Irwin, Roger Kauppinen, and J.L. Hendricks (not pictured) won the Trigg County Wildcat Basketball golf scramble Sunday at Boots Randolph Golf Course.  The foursome shot a 15-under 57 on the afternoon, besting 11 other teams.

Trigg County 17 Murray 6

Trigg County scored two touchdowns in the game's first 5:43 and used a stout defense to beat back Murray 17-6 Friday night at Ty Holland Stadium.

Trigg County opened the game by recovering an onsides kick.  Seven plays later, Antonio Grubbs took it in from three yards out for a 7-0 lead.

The Wildcats forced Murray to punt deep in their own territory on their first possession.  Brandon Bridges picked up the punt and raced around the left side 41 yards for a score to give Trigg County a 14-0 lead with 6:17 left in the third quarter.

Trigg County's defense held Murray to minus-four rushing yards in the first half, which was also their total for the first 24 minutes.

However, Trigg took themselves out of padding the lead in the second quarter thanks to six penalties for 77 yards.  Trigg was flagged nine times for 107 yards in the half and 14 times in the game for 167 yards.

Murray scored in the first minute of the fourth quarter when Jordan Garland hit Adam Peebles with a 17-yard pass with 11:07 left in the game.  However, they missed the conversion kick and still trailed by eight.

Trigg added a 28-yard field goal by John Reinick  with 6:23 to go and could have added a late score but opted to let the clock run out when they had the football at the Murray 5-yard line.

The Wildcats outgained Murray 217-53 and ran 11 more plays than the Tigers.

Brandon Bridges rushed for 92 yards on 18 carries, while Donald Bush added 54 yards on 10 carries, and Antonio Grubbs added 48 yards.

Trigg County improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in district play -- the only unbeaten team at this point.

Murray is also 1-3 but falls to 1-1 in district play.

Also on Friday, Caldwell County overcame sloppiness to beat Heath 18-6.  Murray, Caldwell, and Heath all have 1-1 records.

Other news and notes from the game:

• The win was Trigg County's first at Ty Holland Stadium since a 6-0 win in a monsoon in 1996.  Trigg is now 9-17-1 all-time at Murray.
• Trigg County has won three straight games against Murray for the first time since 1990.
• It was the most Trigg was penalized in a game since a 2005 playoff loss to Owensboro Catholic.
• Trigg County hosts Reidland next week for homecoming.  The Greyhounds beat Muhlenberg North 39-36 Friday night.
• Trigg County center Robby Shearon was ejected in the first half for throwing a punch at a Murray player and will miss the Reidland game Friday.

Trigg County at Murray

Trigg County will look to get on the winning track tonight when they travel to Murray to play the Tigers at Ty Holland Stadium.

It will be the first trip to Murray for Trigg County since a 62-0 loss in 1998.  Murray leads the all-time series 34-17-1, including a 17-8-1 record at Ty Holland Stadium.

Trigg County is 0-3 against the 11th toughest schedule in Class 2A, according to the Massey Ratings.

Murray is 1-2 after beating Caldwell County last week 14-6.  If Murray wins, they will have the inside track at a number one seed in the playoffs, meaning they will get at least two home games.

Trigg County will be looking to avoid their first four-game losing streak since 1999.

Heritage Christian Academy hosting the Lady Warrior Invitational

Heritage Christian Academy is hosting seven other schools at their annual Lady Warrior Invitational that begins today in Hopkinsville.

Action begins today at 4pm when HCA plays Hendersonville Christian Academy.  Lancaster Christian Academy and Glasgow Christian Academy play at 5pm, followed by Pioneer Christian and Frankfort Christian Academy at 6pm, and Franklin Classical and Somerset Christian School at 7pm.

Play continues Saturday with the championship game expected to be played at 4pm.

Trigg County 7 Crittenden County 1

Trigg County scored their goals in bunches Thursday as they beat Crittenden County 7-1 at the Complex.

The win was their first in district play and ups their record to 5-6 with their third win in their last four games.

Every day should be Kelci Winn's birthday.  The junior tied a school record with four goals on her 17th birthday.  She also had two goals on her birthday two years ago.

Winn scored on a breakaway 10 minutes into the game to begin the scoring for the Lady Wildcats.

Taylor Davis added a goal off a free kick nine minutes later to put Trigg up 2-0.  Just 90 seconds later, Brooke Allen found the left corner of the net from 25 yards out for a 3-0 lead.

Trigg wrapped up the first half scoring when Millie Futrell sent a nice crossing pass to Winn, who knocked it into the net out of mid-air for a 4-0 lead.

In the second half, Winn scored off an Ashley Wiegand pass for a 5-0 lead.  Less than a minute later, Winn fed Laykn Brooks with her first goal of the game and a 6-0 lead.

Misty Wallace scored Crittenden County's lone goal in the 58th minute.

Winn finished the game's scoring with her fourth goal in the 65th minute.

Trigg County outshot Crittenden County 30-4 in the game, with their strong defense meaning goalie Katie Davis needed just two saves in the game.

• Hopkinsville beat Fort Campbell 6-1 as Bennett Peck scored the hat trick, and Payton Bucko added two goals.  Also scoring was Hunter Neel.  Bucko also had two assists as the Lady Tigers wrapped up the number one seed in next month's district tournament.  Hoptown is now 10-2 with their sixth straight win, while Fort Campbell falls to 6-5.  Hopkinsville also won the JV game 7-1 as Lexie Bozell had three goals, and Caroline Noel added two.
• UHA was scoreless for the first 57 minutes of their game with Todd County Central before exploding for eight goals in the final 23 minutes to grab the 8-1 win at Givens Field.  Sara Allen scored four goals for UHA, while Jessica Harper added two and Alli Ross and Elizabeth Settle each scored a goal.  UHA won the JV game 2-1 on goals by Conner East and Shelby Martin.  The Lady Blazers are now 7-3 on the season.

Trigg County 6 Hopkins County Central 0

Trigg County rolled to their seventh straight win of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Hopkins County Central Thursday at Morton's Gap.

The winning streak equals the second longest in school history and is one away from tying the record set in 2001.

The shutout is Trigg's sixth of the season and establishes a new school record.  Trigg County is now 10-1-5 all-time against the Storm.

The Wildcats (10-1-1) will play at Lyon County Tuesday.

In other boys' soccer action from Thursday:

• Fort Campbell beat Hopkinsville 3-1 behind two goals from Aldo Torres and a goal from Matt Lassiter.  Mike Massie also had an assist.  Bryce Whitson had 10 saves in goal for the Falcons, who improve their record to 6-4 on the season.  Hopkinsville falls to 3-7-1 with the loss.  Fort Campbell also won the JV game 5-0 as Jacob Caraccilo and Samuel Arreguin had two goals each, and Tre Such had the shutout in goal.
• Heritage Christian Academy beat Somerset Christian 3-0 as Trent Little, Joe Alvarado, and Ryan Harris notched goals.  Little, Alvarado, and Luke Carpenter added assists, and Dan Ligibel recorded the shutout in goal.  HCA is now 7-1 on the season and in second place in the KCAA standings behind Lexington Trinity.
• Caldwell County continued the best start in their history with a 5-1 win over Calloway County.  The Tigers are now 9-1.
• Christian County won their fourth straight game with a 5-3 win over Union County. The Colonels are now 10-2-1 on the season.
• University Heights won their fourth straight game and eighth in nine games this year with a 5-1 win at Todd County Central.

Crittenden County 2 Trigg County 0

Trigg County slipped to 10-16 on the year with a 26-24, 25-18 loss at Crittenden County tonight.  It was their sixth loss in nine road games this year and drops their district record to 0-5.

Samantha Harper had 35 sets with 7 assists, while Kelly Bradshaw was 29 of 30 passing, and Stephanie Graves was 18 of 20 hitting with 3 kills.

Crittenden County improved to 11-4 with the win.  The Lady Rockets also won the JV game 21-18, 8-21, 21-16.

• Hopkinsville beat Muhlenberg North 18-25, 25-17, 25-11.  It was Hopkinsville's second win this year after dropping the first game of the match.  The Lady Tigers are now 8-8 on the season.

UHA falls in dual golf match

Kyle Barbee took home medalist honors for University Heights during a dual match with Muhlenberg South at the Links at NovaDell today.

Barbee shot a 37, while teammate John Stevenson shot a 40, and Cameron Allen shot a 41.  Sixth grader Dalton Putty recorded his first birdie and shot a 49.  Taylor Chapman added a 53.

Marcus Brown was the low scorer for Muhlenberg South with a 38.  The Suns shot a 160, which was seven shots better than the Blazers.

In other golf action, Trigg County played at Caldwell County today.  No scores were reported.

Trigg County splits dual meet with Dawson Springs

Trigg County ran in their first home cross country meet of the year and split with Dawson Springs.

Lynease Byers won the girls' race, while Alex Olin was third, Macey King sixth, Monica Jones 11th, and Rachel Cronin 14th. 

Dawson Springs won the race with 26 points.  Trigg had 35.

In the boys' varsity race, Jay Jolly finished second to Dawson Springs' Colten Chappell.  Romaine Cunningham finished third, followed by Jakelzi Martin in sixth, Depaul Hendrix in seventh, and Matt Savage in ninth.

Trigg beat Dawson Springs 27-31.

In the middle school girls' race, Kelsey Desrochers finished second, Stephanie Thomas third, and Brooklyn Meador eighth.

In the middle school boys' race, Trigg brought home five of the top six places.

Ethan Dossett was second, Reagan Hyde was third, David Morgan fourth, J.B. Hendrix fifth, and Tyler Estes sixth.

Trigg County runs in the St. Mary Invitational Saturday.

Trigg County 5 Todd County Central 3

Trigg County held off Todd County Central 5-3 tonight at the Complex, to draw within two games of .500.

Kelci Winn and Taylor Davis each had two goals, and Abigail Torian added another as the Lady Wildcats built a 3-0 lead only to see Todd County tie the game with three quick goals in the first eight minutes of the second half.

"We still can't seem to put a complete game together, but at least this time we came out on the winning side of things," said Lady Wildcat head coach Mike Smith.  "Todd never really threatened us, they just took advantage of our chances."

Trigg County outshot Todd County 25-5 in the contest.  The Lady Wildcats are now 4-6 and will host Crittenden County Thursday.

In other action tonight, University Heights Academy beat Crittenden County 10-0 at UHA.  Sara Allen scored four goals, and Eden Mack added two.  Shelby Martin, Rachel Camp and Katherine Settle each added one goal as the Lady Blazers scored five goals in each half.

Freshman Garnett Bruce earned her first shutout in the goal of a varsity game.

UHA also won the JV game 2-0 on goals from Shayna Hudson and Katherine Settle.  Sixth grader Carson Bryant recorded the shutout in the goal.

UHA returns to action Thursday against Todd County at Givens Field.

Caldwell County 2 Trigg County 0

Caldwell County beat Trigg County for the fourth time this year, winning 25-11, 25-13 tonight in Princeton.

The win is Caldwell's 12th straight win and runs their record to 22-2 on the season, while the Lady Wildcats fall to 10-15 on the season.

For Trigg County to avoid a fourth seed in the district tournament and fifth meeting with Caldwell County, they will need to sweep their final two district games.  The first one is Thursday at Crittenden County.

Rich Brooks accuses opponents of stealing signs

Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks has accused Middle Tennessee State and Tennessee of stealing sideline signals.

Brooks leveled the accusations after Kentucky held off MTSU 20-14 on Saturday.

He said Tennessee did the same thing last year, causing the coaches to drape towels around the coaches on the sidelines of last year's game -- a 52-50 UT win.

Here's an idea Rich.  Change the signals.  Signal stealing has been a part of sports for a long time.

A tale of two Hail Marys

Here is a tale of two Hail Marys.  One worked and one almost did.

First, the one that worked.  Buffalo beat Temple on this Hail Mary Saturday.

Second, one that almost worked.  Middle Tennessee came up one yard short against Kentucky later that night.

And had it worked, Kentucky fans would have been reliving this one all over again.

Todd County at Trigg County

Trigg County hosts Todd County Central tonight at the Complex as they try and sweep the season series with the Lady Rebels.

Trigg beat Todd 5-1 back on Aug. 28.  The Lady Wildcats are 3-6 on the season, while Todd County is 0-6-1.

In other games tonight:

• Caldwell County (2-2-2) visits Calloway County (3-4-2)
• Reidland (3-6-1) travels to Fort Campbell (5-4)
• University Heights (5-3) hosts Crittenden County (0-6)

In games from Monday:

• Hopkinsville traveled to Pleasant View, Tennessee and beat Sycamore 6-1.  Sophomores Bennett Peck and Payton Bucko each scored hat tricks as the Lady Tigers improved to 9-2.  Anjel Grajales, Bucko, and Peck each had two assists.  The War Eagles fell to 1-6 with the loss.  Hopkinsville hosts Fort Campbell Thursday.
• University Heights beat St. Mary 5-1 Monday in Paducah.  Sara Allen scored two goals for the Lady Blazers, while Alli Ross, Jessica Harper, and Shayna Hudson each added a goal.  Allen, Harper, and Hudson each had an assist, and Garnett Bruce had seven saves in goal.  UHA improves to 5-3 and will host Crittenden County tonight.

Midcats play at Todd County Middle tonight

The Trigg County Midcat football teams play at Todd County Middle School tonight.  The 8th grade team carries a 2-1 record into the game, while the 7th graders are a perfect 3-0.

Trigg to host cross country meet today

Trigg County will host a dual cross country meet with Dawson Springs today at 5pm at the Lake Barkley Airport course.  It's their first home meet of the season.

Boys soccer roundup

In boys soccer action from Monday:

• Cameron Rager scored the only goal of the game as University Heights edged St. Mary 1-0 in Paducah.  The win was UHA's third straight shutout victory and improves their record to 7-1.  The Blazers play at Todd County Central Thursday.
• Todd County beat Russellville 3-0
• Hopkinsville edged Calloway County 3-1 to snap a two-game losing streak and up their record to 3-6-1.  Hoptown will play at Fort Campbell Thursday.

In games tonight:

• Lyon County (1-6-1) is at Dawson Springs (0-10)
• Fort Campbell (4-4) is at Todd County (4-6)
• Caldwell County (7-1) travels to Union County (2-3-1)

Trigg County at Caldwell County

Trigg County returns to volleyball action tonight as they travel to Caldwell County for a 6pm contest.

The Lady Wildcats are 10-14 following a 2-4 showing at the Western Kentucky Smackdown over the weekend.  Trigg is 0-3 against Caldwell County this year, dropping all six sets by an average of 11 points a game.

Caldwell County is 21-2 on the year and have won 11 straight games.  Although many schedules list the game in Cadiz, tonight's game will be played in Princeton.

• Heritage Christian Academy beat Metro Christian of Nashville 25-15, 19-25, 25-17 to run their record to 10-3 on the season.  Alden Gray had five aces, Katy Ward had four aces and 11 assists, and Lauren Sloan had five kills.  "It was a very exciting volleyball match.  We wanted this match since they spanked us pretty good at their gym," said Lady Warrior head coach Eldridge Rogers.  "Our girls really responded to the challenge tonight."  The JV team won 21-2, 21-19 to up their record to 11-2.

Grid Iron Booster Club to meet Tuesday night

The Trigg County Grid Iron Booster Club will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the UK Extension office conference room on Old Hopkinsville Road.

The Grid Iron Club also has Trigg County Wildcat T-shirts and hats for sale. The new long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts will be arriving soon. You can see Stacie Oakley or Molly Oliver for more information.

Hopkinsville, Christian County tie in golf match

Hopkinsville and Christian County tied for first place in a triangular match with University Heights Monday at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.

Jordan Gary led Hopkinsville with a 38, followed by Dallas Gates (39), Conner Gates (41), Dayton Jones (45), Brendan Jones (47), and Lucas Bolinger (49).

John Stevenson led UHA with a 42, while Kyle Barbee shot a 43.  Taylor Chapman shot a 48, Cameron Allen and Tyler Stewart each shot 50s, and Dalton Putty shot a 56.

Hopkinsville's Marah Goff shot a 48 to lead the ladies.

UHA returns to action Tuesday at the Madisonville Country Club.

What an 0-3 start means

Trigg County is off to an 0-3 start for the first time in a decade, albeit against a schedule that is 7-2 through three weeks.

Saturday's soccer roundup

Christian County won the Hopkins Central Storm Tournament over the weekend by winning three games on Saturday.

After tying Muhlenberg North 1-1 Friday, they beat Todd County Central 9-0 and earned a 1-0 forfeit over the Rebels in pool play. 

Aaron Hutchison had the hat trick in the 9-0 win over the Rebels, and Darrin Horn added two goals.

They turned around and beat Muhlenberg North 6-0 as Hutchison had another hat trick, and Mitch West had two goals of his own.  Hutchison has 14 goals on the season, and Jordan Holloman recorded his seventh shut out of the season.

Christian County (9-2-1) travels to Union County Thursday.

In other soccer action Saturday, Heritage Christian Academy beat AIE of Louisville 3-0.  David Colby had two goals and assisted on a goal by Luke Carpenter.  Joe Alvarado also had an assist for the Warriors, who are now 6-1 in KCAA play.

Christian County takes third at Smackdown; Trigg second in pool division

Trigg County finished second in the Silver Medal Round of the inMotion Sports West Kentucky Smackdown over the weekend in Hopkinsville.

Trigg County beat Russellville 17-25, 25-21, 29-27 in the first game before losing to Warren East 25-20, 25-10 in pool play.

Trigg lost to Murray 25-21, 25-16 before rallying to beat Todd County Central 25-13, 26-24.  In the championship game of the Silver Medal Round, Clarksville Northwest beat Trigg County 25-14, 12-25, 25-14.

The Lady Wildcats are now 10-14 on the season.  There were no stats available for the games.

"They've been playing really well together.  Last week, I had two varsity starters and a JV player quit, so this weekend they played with a new lineup," Lady Wildcat head coach Kim Colbert said.  "The atmosphere is really good though. They are talking and and communicated so well. I'm really proud of them."

Trigg County returns to action Monday night when they host Mayfield at Wildcat Gym.

Meanwhile, Christian County went 5-1 in the tournament and finished third in the 11-team event.

On Friday, Christian County beat Clarksville Northwest 26-24, 25-19 and Whitesville Trinity 25-14, 27-25.

On Saturday, Christian County:

Beat Montgomery Central, TN 30-28, 25-21.

Beat Todd County 25-13, 25-22.

Lost to Murray 18-25, 26-28

Runners compete at Owensboro Invitational

The Christian County cross country team competed in the 44th annual Owensboro Cross Country Invitational at Yellow Creek Park Saturday.

The CCHS boys' varsity team finished sixth.  Sean Hurd led the Colonels with a 6th place finish in a time of 17:55.  Danny Johnson finished 30th in 19:14, Chris Pyle 54th in 20:15, and Roman Roman was 55th in 20:17.  Matt Moorefield (20:38), Kyle Lancaster (23:47), and Clay Wilhelm (30:44) also competed for the Colonels.

In the girls' middle school race, Rachael Snyder finished 45th in 14:46, while Katie Manzanares was 49th in 15:22, and Karalyn Beymer 76th in 18:40.

The boys' elementary team finished fifth and was led by Alex Lancaster, who finished in 21st place in a time of 4:39.  Logan Scott finished 23rd in 4:43, Jacob Gibson 37th in 4:59, Kendall Lancaster 41st in 5:05, and Jonathan Beymer 44th in 5:09. 

The boys' middle school team finished in 6th place as a team with Logan Hurd finishing 24th in 12:08, Fletcher Lyon 27th in 12:11, Brandon Scott 52nd in 13:07, Matthew Hull 53rd in 13:08, Chance Reagan 67th in 13:28, Taylor Saltsman 75th in 13:43, and Matthew Johnson 78th in 13:52.

The Colonels will run again Saturday at the St. Mary Invitational in Paducah.

Middle Tennessee State at Kentucky

Kentucky hosts Middle Tennessee State today in Lexington.  Airtime on WKDZ-FM is 4:30pm, with kickoff at 6pm.

Hopkins County Central 25 Trigg County 0

Trigg County once again had too many mistakes, and Hopkins County Central made them pay with a 25-0 win tonight at Perdue Field.

It was Hopkins Central's first win over Trigg County in four career meetings, and marked the first time Trigg County had been shut out at home since 1999 -- a span of 56 games.  Todd County was the last team to shut out Trigg County at Perdue Field.

As has been the case each of the first three weeks, Trigg County made mistakes and the opponent made them pay.

After forcing Hopkins Central to punt, the Wildcats fumbled the return, and Hopkins Central scored two plays later on a 12-yard run by Keith Couch with 10:08 left in the first half.

Trigg had a chance to score but missed a 35-yard field goal on their next drive.

Hopkins Central took over and had a fourth-and-1 at the Trigg 32.  The Wildcats jumped offsides, and the Storm scored four plays later on a 6-yard run by Jacob Powell with 3:49 left in the half.

Hopkins County Central went up 19-0 with 9:33 left in the third quarter on a 58-yard pass from Jacob Pwell to Kelsey Bowman.

On their first possession of the third quarter, Trigg County was forced to punt and got one off to near midfield.  However, the Wildcats were called for holding, which backed the football back to the 32-yard line.  The next punt was blocked and ran into the end zone by Nikee Caldwell with 7:43 left in the quarter.

Trigg County had 225 yards of offense, but just 65 in the second half.  Hopkins County Central had 133 yards in the first half and 129 in the second half.

Trigg County (0-3) plays at Murray next week in their district opener.  Murray beat Caldwell County 14-6 tonight.

Hopkins County Central (2-1) plays at Boonville, Indiana next week.

Other notes from the game:

• Trigg County is 0-3 for the first time since 1998.
• The Wildcats have lost three straight home games for the first time since 1999.
• Brandon Bridges had 17 carries for 107 yards.
• Will Stagner caught three passes for 32 yards.
• Keith Couch had 77 yards rushing on five carries for the Storm
• Trigg had four more turnovers on the night and have 11 through three games.  Trigg has two takeaways, both by Mitch Rogers -- a fumble and interception.
• Trigg had five kickoff returns for 129 yards.  They had 13 returns for 91 yards coming into the game.
• Donald Bush has four interceptions on the season.  He had five all of last year.
• Tavaras Poindexter was named the WKDZ Player of the Game for his work on the offensive and defensive lines.
• Trigg's opponents have 12 first downs due to Trigg penalties in three games.

Hopkins County Central at Trigg County

Trigg County looks for their first win tonight against Hopkins County Central at Perdue Field.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.

The Wildcats are looking to avoid their first 0-3 start since 1998.

Hopkins County Central is 1-1 following last week's 13-6 overtime loss to Madisonville.

Trigg County is a perfect 3-0 against Hopkins County Central, including last year's 27-25 thriller in Morton's Gap, won on a 27-yard field goal by John Reinick with three seconds left.

Christian County 2 Fort Campbell 0

Christian County beat Ft. Campbell 25-13, 25-12 at Christian County on Thursday Sept. 11th.

Casey Castile had 9 kills and 1 ace.

Cheyenne Willis had 3 blocks and 1 ace.

Carly P'Pool had 2 blocks and 1 ace.

Kayla Wade had 9 assists.

Kristi O'Quinn had 2 blocks and 3 aces.

Trigg County 3 Muhlenberg South 2

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win for Trigg County as they traveled to Muhlenberg South and came away with a 3-2 win.

"We played by far our worst game of the season.  We came out flat and lacked energy the whole game," said Wildcat head coach Josh Nichols.  "I could see in warmups that we didn't have any intensity."

Roman Cail tied the game at 1-1 on a first half penalty kick, but the Wildcats trailed 2-1 at halftime.

Jeremy Stamps tied the game in the 60th minute, and Trevor Harper scored the game-winner with about 10 minutes left for the win.

Trigg County is now 9-1-1 and has the week off before playing Hopkins County Central next Thursday.  Muhlenberg South fell to 2-4-2 with the loss.
