After losing their opening game in the State Softball Tournament, Christian County rallied to win two games today and advance to Saturday's elimination round.
Christian County will play Reidland Saturday morning at 9am. The Lady Colonels (32-11) will have to win six games Saturday to claim the state championship. Reidland (32-6-1) lost their opener to Lawrence County 2-1 before coming back to beat Estill County 9-2 and Scott County 1-0.
Christian County beat Ballard 5-1 to advance in the elimination round. The Lady Colonels scored twice in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Yezmine Smith drove in two more runs with a triple in the seventh inning. Stacey Harbold drove in a run as part of her three-hit afternoon and pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing just four Ballard hits and recording four strikeouts.
The Lady Colonels had no trouble getting past George Rogers Clark (28-14), scoring six runs in the second inning on their way to a 13-0 win. Hannah Hodge had three hits and two RBIs for the Lady Colonels.
In the opener, Greenwood beat Christian County for a third time this year as Rachel Riley struck out ten in the 6-0 Lady Gator win. Christian County had just four hits in the game.
