Trigg County begins play in the Farmer's State Bank Marion Illinois Holiday Tournament Wednesday. The Wildcats will be making their fourth appearance in the five year history of the event.
The Wildcats are 5-3 on the season, coming off a 90-84 win over Fort Campbell that saw them take fifth place in the Murray Bank Holiday Classic.
Other teams in the round robin event include two other Kentucky schools -- Union County (2-6) and St. Mary (2-6). Lake County, Tennessee (10-1) is considered to be the favorites to win the event after finishing second to the host Marion squad last year.
The Falcons of Tiptonville, Tenn. are the highest scoring team in the tournament at 78.3 points, while Trigg County is second at 72 points a game.
Marion (4-6) won the event last year, and will be joined by Herrin (1-8) in the six team field.
Trigg will play one game each on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and two on Saturday.
In their previous three appearances, Trigg has posted a winning record just once in 2004-05 but lost their final two games after Russell Mackins and Rodney Davis were injured. Trigg's career record in the event is 7-7.
The Wildcats do own winning record over every team in the field except for Marion (1-2). They are 1-0 vs. St. Mary, Union County, and Herrin, and 2-1 vs. Lake County.
