A slow start doomed Trigg County as they fell 66-52 in the consolation bracket of the Murray Cracker Barrel Classic Friday. They will play Heath at 11am today in the 7th place game.
Buckhorn used a 19-3 first quarter run to build a 21-8 lead they never relinquished. Trigg trailed 30-13 at one point in the second quarter but used a 16-5 run to climb back in the game.
Trigg was bothered by foul trouble in the second half which resulted in some soft inside defense. The Lady Wildcats cut the lead to 53-50 with 5:42 left but didn't score again until the final few seconds as Buckhorn ended the game on a 13-2 run. Trigg had nine turnovers and missed eight straight shots during that run.
For the game, Trigg had 30 turnovers and was outscored 23-5 after turnovers.
Brooke Kearney led Trigg with 15 points, while Janada Acree added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Trinity Wortham scored eight.
Buckhorn (6-4) got 16 points and 11 rebounds from Jamey Jo Gilbert.
Trigg County falls to 1-9 with the loss. They will play Heath, who lost to Caldwell County 43-39.
