Dawson Springs held off a pair of Trigg County rallies and enjoyed a healthy advantage at the free throw line in claiming a 46-34 season opening win at Wildcat Gym Tuesday.
Down 12 in the second quarter, Trigg County cut the lead to five at halftime 22-17. Dawson led 31-23 after three quarters and Trigg cut it to six once but couldn't get any closer.
Trigg started three freshmen in the backcourt and it showed at times as they committed 31 turnovers on the night. However, their defense forced 29 turnovers from the Lady Panthers.
Dawson Springs shot 8-of-16 at the free throw line in both halves to finish 16-of-32. Trigg was 3-of-7 at the line.
Janada Acree came off the bench to score seven points and grab seven rebounds, while Brooke Kearney and Morgan Parker also scored seven points each.
Casey Mills led Dawson Springs with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Trigg County returns to action Friday at home against Logan County.
