The annual Governor's Cup football game between Kentucky and Louisville on Sept. 15 will be carried on ESPN Classic, which means you won't see the game if you are a subscriber to Mediacom Cable.
You can thank UK coach Rich Brooks and UK AD Mitch Barnhart for this move. Brooks says the UK football program has nothing to gain by opening the season with UL on live TV. Nothing Rich except an exclusive TV audience on a Sunday night before the NFL season starts and no other college games to switch to.
Of course, I can see his point with the recent 30-point losses his team has endured to Louisville recently.
Other games played on Sept. 15 include Alabama vs. Arkansas; Florida vs. Tennessee; Notre Dame vs. Michigan; Ohio State vs. Washington; Nebraska vs. USC; Colorado vs. Florida State; and Pitt vs. Michigan State. So much for the exclusive TV audience also.
This is one of the biggest head scratchers UK has pulled since naming their football field after a basketball coach.
