Titans wrap up NFL Draft

Tennessee wrapped up the second round of the NFL Draft by addressing some offensive issues.

Here is a Day 2 Titan Draft recap.

The player to watch could be 6th round pick Joel Filani, a receiver from Texas Tech.

If there was a Day One quote to absorb, it came from the Titans' first round pick.

Trigg has good showing at Paducah Tilghman track invitational

Trigg County had a solid showing Saturday at the Paducah Tilghman Track and Field Invitational.

The Wildcats finished 7th out of 17 teams in the boys' division, while the Lady Wildcats were 9th out of 16th at the unclassed event.  Tilghman swept the meet as the Tornado gear up for another sweep at the Class 2A state meet next month.

Titans have solid first day in the NFL Draft

The Tennessee Titans knew they had some holes to fill going into this year's NFL Draft. 

They appeared to fill some of those holes, especially in the secondary by drafting Texas safety Michael Griffin.

Check out what the Titans have to say about their second round pick (Arizona running back Chris Henry) and third round pick (Fresno State wide receiver Paul Williams).

The Titans will have seven picks in rounds 4-7 today, making for another busy day for new Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt.

Jeff Embrey resigns as Wildcat basketball coach

Jeff Embrey has resigned as Trigg County boys' basketball coach to take a similar position at district rival Lyon County.

Embrey finalized the deal Thursday night and held a team meeting Friday to tell them of his decision to leave, he told me Friday afternoon.

"It was a very tough decision for me.  We played some younger players against some good compeition, and that makes it tough to leave," he said.  "But, I live in Lyon County and it puts me closer to my new job and closer to my family.  It just made sense for me to make the move."

Trigg County was 10-19 in Embrey's only season as Wildcat head coach, winning the Fifth District title -- the school's third straight, which was a program first.

Embrey was hired to replace Bill Chumbler last June, becoming the first Wildcat assistant coach in over 30 years to be promoted from assistant coach to head coach.  He is also the first coach since Lee Redden (1943-44) to coach TCHS for just one season.

He has a career record of 82-58 as a boys head coach, which includes five seasons at Austin High School in Indiana.

Embrey takes over a Lyon County program that was 9-65 the past three seasons under Jimmie Johnson, who resigned last month.

Interim TCHS athletic director Doug Gloyd said the coaching job would be posted and that a hiring committee would be formed to find a new boys basketball coach.

Wow.

One day after playing their best game of the year in a 4-1 loss to Lyon County, Trigg County pulled off one of the program's biggest wins with a 1-0 shutout of Caldwell County Friday at the Complex.

The win was Trigg County's first-ever over Caldwell County since the move to fast-pitch in 1995.  It was Trigg's first shutout win since 2004 and their first 1-0 shutout win since beating Fort Campbell 1-0 on April 29, 2003.

Dakota Littlejohn pitched the complete game shutout to get the win.

Trigg County improves to 2-14 with the win, while Caldwell County fell to 6-9 with the loss.

Trigg County also won the JV game to complete the sweep.

The Lady Wildcats return to action Tuesday at Fort Campbell.

Titans draft coverage on WKDZ

The Tennessee Titans have the 19th pick in the first round of Saturday's NFL Draft.

Saturday at 1pm, WKDZ-FM will carry a special show "Titans on the Clock", detailing their picks.

Saturday at 6pm, "Titans Draft Central" will recap their first day of picks.

Sunday at 7pm, "Titans Draft Central" will recap Tennessee's second day of the draft.

Tuesday at 6pm, Jeff Fisher will weigh in on the draft on the "Jeff Fisher Show."

Union County 8 Trigg County 6

When it comes to Union County, the Wildcats are snakebit.

Union County overcame a 6-0 deficit and sent the game to extra innings, beating Trigg County 8-6 in eight innings Friday night at the Complex.

Nathan Hedgepeth hit a two-out, two-strike pitch over the left field fence for a 3-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 6-6.  Union scored two runs on two hits and a walk in the eighth to win it.

It was Union's second extra inning win over the Wildcats this year.  They beat Trigg 4-3 in 8 innings on April 12.

The game was full of missed opportunities for the Wildcats, who squandered a bases loaded and no outs opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Trigg stranded 11 runners in the game, including 10 in the last four innings.

Will Stagner had four hits for the Wildcats, who also got two doubles from Caleb Reynolds and a 3-run homer from Lucas Riddle.

In addition to Hedgepeth, Jarrod Burke cranked a 3-run homer for Union County (7-11) on a day when the wind was blowing out at the Complex.

Taylor Lowary suffered the pitching loss for the Wildcats, who fell to 9-10 overall and 0-3 in extra inning games this year.

Trigg County will host Lyon County Monday at the Complex.

Free basketball camp slated for June

A free one-on-one basketball camp will be held June 4-16 at Trigg County's Wildcat Gym.

Sign up forms are available in the local schools, and there will be a sign-up day Saturday from 11am-1pm in front of the gym.

The deadline to register is May 8.

The camp is made possible through the help of the One-on-One Basketball Committee, the Cadiz Rotary Club, Sadler Construction, and the Trigg County School System.  Awards and T-shirts will be awarded on the camp's final day.

Livingston Central 8 Trigg County 7

Two errors on the same play allowed Livingston Central to score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning and hand Trigg County a 8-7 setback Thursday in Smithland.

The loss hurts for the Wildcats, who fell to 3-1 in the district.  Trigg must beat Lyon County (April 30) and Crittenden County (May 3) and hope for a Crittenden loss to win the top seed in the district outright.

The final inning boo-boos were just two of six committed by the Wildcats on the night, including three in the final inning.

Livingston led 7-4 after four innings, but the Wildcats scored three runs in the next two innings to tie the game at 7.

Trigg had five hits in the game, led by Caleb Reynolds' two hits.  Devon Morris, Will Stagner, and John David Fourqurean each recording a hit.  Fourqurean's was a two-run double.

Tony Finley started on the mound for the Wildcats, with Donald Bush the tough luck loser.  Bush didn't allow an earned run over the final 3 1/3 innings he pitched.

Livingston Central improved to 8-9, 2-2 with the win.

Trigg County saw a five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 9-9 on the season and 0-2 in extra inning games.  The Wildcats will get a chance to avenge the other extra inning loss when they host Union County today at 5pm at the Complex.

Lyon County 4 Trigg County 1

Despite giving up just one hit, Trigg County was hurt by several key errors and lost to Lyon County 4-1 Thursday at the Complex.

The game was perhaps the best one played by the Lady Wildcats this year, snapping a streak of six straight games against Lyon County decided by the 10-run rule.

Dakota Littlejohn allowed only a two-out double to Hayley Parrent in the seventh inning and struck out six in taking the complete game loss.

Two errors and a walk in the second inning led to Lyon's first two runs.  They added another run in the third on two walks and two wild pitches.

Trigg County scored in the fourth inning when Kayla Joiner scored on a hit-and-run single off the bat of Whitney Cain.  Cain and Kalesha Williams each had two hits for Trigg County, while Rachel Gasky, and Danni Romero added singles.

Sarah White picked up the pitching win for Lyon County (7-5,3-2), striking out four batters in seven innings of work.

Trigg County fell to 1-14 with the loss and 0-6 in the district and will host Caldwell County Friday and will play at Fort Campbell Tuesday.

Trigg County vs. Lyon County today

Trigg County and Lyon County appear set to play their softball game today despite rain this morning.

Lady Wildcat head coach Jamie Howell said a decision will be made this afternoon, but the field appeared to be in good shape.

Trigg County is 1-13 and looking for their first district win against a Lyon County team that beat them 13-1 last month.

If the game is played, we'll have it on AM-1110 WKDZ beginning with the Dugout Show at 5:15pm.

Caldwell's Fraelix named to Kentucky All-Star team

Caldwell County's Matt Fraelix has been named to the Kentucky All-Star basketball team that will play Indiana this summer.

Fraelix, who has signed to play at Murray State, was the only player from western Kentucky named to the squad.

Kentucky Girls All-Star basketball team announced

The Kentucky Girls' All-Star basketball team that will play Indiana over the summer has been announced. 

A list of the roster and other details of the team can be found in this article from the Louisville Courier-Journal.

If you are looking for players from western Kentucky on the squad, don't strain too hard.  Players from this end of the state who tried out for the team included Jessica Doran of Graves County, Chloe Elam of Russellville, Melly Heaton of Caldwell County, Whitney Odom of Apollo, Ashley Prince of Owensboro, Amy Swisher of Franklin-Simpson, and T.J. Thomas of Barren County.

Only Prince was named to the team from that group.  The team is coached by Randy Napier of Perry County Central and Sally Zimmerman of Shelby County.

The boys' all-star team will be announced later today.

Trigg County 12 Crittenden County 0

Taylor Lowary pitched six inning of one-hit baseball as Trigg County won their fifth straight game and recorded their first shutout of the year with a 12-0 win at Fort Campbell Tuesday.

Lowary struck out seven and walked just one in picking up his first win of the year.

John David Fourqurean, Lucas Riddle, and Donald Bush each had two hits, while Devon Morris smacked his third home run of the year in the sixth inning.

The shutout is the first of the year for the Wildcats and the first since an 11-0 thumping of Crittenden County last year.

The Wildcats are now 9-8 on the season and have won five straight games for the first time in a long time.  I can't find a five-game winning streak going back more than seven years.

Trigg County also won the JV game 12-9.

The Wildcats travel to Livingston Central Thursday for a 4:30pm contest.

Crittenden County 8 Trigg County 7

For the second straight game in their series, Crittenden County rallied for four runs in their final at bat to beat Trigg County 8-7 Tuesday in Marion.

Trigg scored all seven of their runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead before Crittenden County took advantage of four walks and three Trigg errors to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Crittenden scored four times in the seventh inning back on March 27 to beat the Lady Wildcats in Cadiz.

Trigg scored seven runs on six straight hits in the fifth inning, with Dakota Littlejohn and Whitney Cain producing run-scoring doubles.

Kalesha Williams had three hits, and Hayla Frye added two as the Lady Wildcats had nine hits on the night.

Trigg County fell to 1-13 on the season and 0-5 in the district.  The loss assures Trigg of the #4 seed in the district tournament.

The Lady Wildcats return to action Thursday against Lyon County at the Complex in a 5pm contest.

Ireland Fuller scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send Trigg County to their first win of the season.  The 7-6 win over Mayfield Monday snapped a 29-game losing streak by the Lady Wildcats that dated back to the 2005 district tournament.

Fuller scampered home when an 0-2 pitch to Whitney Cain bounded past the Mayfield catcher and went to the screen.

The run capped off a six-run rally for the Lady Wildcats, who trailed 6-0 in the fourth inning.

Kayla Joiner hit a bases-clearing triple in the fourth inning to cut the Mayfield lead in half, and Samantha Furr and Cain added RBI hits in the fifth inning for Trigg, who had seven hits on the day.

Dakota Littlejohn pitched the final three innings for the win.

Mayfield fell to 3-8 with the loss.

Trigg County is now 1-12 on the season and can make it two in a row today when they travel to Crittenden County. 

Crittenden (3-9, 1-1) rallied for four runs in the final inning back on March 27 to beat Trigg 10-9.  Gametime in Marion is set for 5:30pm.

John David Fourqurean had three hits and drove in six runs as Trigg County ran their district record to 3-0 with a 7-2 win over Crittenden County Monday at the Complex.

Trigg scored twice in the third inning, three times in the fourth, and twice in the sixth -- with Fourqurean getting RBI hits in each inning.

Donald Bush also had an RBI single for the Wildcats as part of their nine-hit attack.  Caleb Reynolds had two hits, while Devon Morris, Will Stagner, and Kyle Allen each had a hit.

Lucas Riddle picked up the complete game win, allowing eight hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking two.

Solo home runs by Alex Wood and Jacob McMican accounted for Crittenden's lone runs.  The Rockets fell to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Trigg County evened their record to 8-8 on the season with their fourth straight win.  The Wildcats are in sole possession of first place in the district with a perfect 3-0 mark.

The Wildcats will travel to Fort Campbell (4-8) Tuesday for a 5pm game on post.  The Falcons beat Dawson Springs 11-7 on Monday.

Alex Legion to UK?

New UK basketball coach Billy Gillispie has reportedly picked up an early signing coup, landing 6-5 Oak Hill Academy guard Alex Legion, who was released from his letter of intent from Michigan earlier this month.

Legion is considered a four-star prospect by many and was considering Kansas and UCLA.  Several web sites are reporting that Legion is UK-bound after he made a visit to Lexington over the weekend.

John David Fourqurean doubled home the winning run in Trigg County's 5-4 win over Muhlenberg South at the Complex.

Fourqurean's two-bagger capped a two-run seventh inning that saw the Wildcats win their fifth game in their last six outings.

Fourqurean, Will Stagner, and Devon Morris each had two hits in the game, with Stagner doubling home Morris to tie the game in the seventh.

Lucas Riddle pitched the seventh inning and picked up the win by striking out two batters.  Donald Bush pitched the first six innings, giving up six hits and striking out three.  None of the four runs he allowed were earned as the Wildcats committed four errors on the afternoon.

Trigg County improved to 7-8 overall, while Muhlenberg South fell to 6-5 with the loss.

Trigg's JV improved to 7-4 with an 8-3 win over the Suns.  Shane Banks picked up the pitching win as Drew Pool, Tony Bryant, and R.J. Sholar each had two hits.

Trigg County will host Crittenden County in a big district game this afternoon.  Both teams have 2-0 district marks, and the winner would have the inside track to the top seed in the district tournament.

Trigg takes first at Radford/Wallace Invitational

A strong afternoon from their relay teams propelled Trigg County to a first place finish in the male division of the Radford/Wallace Track Meet Thursday at Perdue Field.  Trigg's girls took second in the meet, which was postponed from the previous week.

Trigg won the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter relays and finished second in the 400 meter relay.  Trigg also got first place finishes from Jalik Alexander (400 meters), Jay Jolly (1600 meters), and John Reinick (3200 meters).

Trigg's girls picked up six first place finishes to come in second to Murray.  First place finishes came from Laquisha Boyd (Shot put and discus), Abigail Torian (triple jump and 100 meters), Janada Acree (400 meters), and the 1600 meter relay.

Trigg County took part in the Hopkinsville Invitational Saturday, and I'll have results Monday on the blog.

Trigg baseball to hold alumni game Saturday

Trigg County High School will host an alumni baseball game Saturday following Trigg's varsity game with Muhlenberg South at the Complex.

The varsity game will be at noon, with the alumni game to follow at 4pm.

The cost to play in the alumni game will be $10, with the proceeds to benefit Trigg County athletics.

Trigg County 9 Lyon County 1

Trigg County won their fourth game in five outings since returning from Florida with a 9-1 win at Lyon County Thursday in Eddyville.

Tony Finley allowed three hits over five innings and drove in two runs with a double as the Wildcats moved to 2-0 in the district.

Finley's double keyed a five-run fifth inning that also saw Michael Holloway drive in a run as part of his two-hit day.

Will Stagner and John David Fourqurean also had two hits each as the Wildcats pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon.

Trigg County's JV team moved to 6-4 on the year with a 10-3 win over Lyon County.

The Wildcats improved to 6-8 on the season and 2-0 in district play.  They return to action Saturday at noon at the Complex against Muhlenberg South.

Lady Wildcats drop doubleheader to Livingston Central

Trigg County dropped a doubleheader to Livingston Central Thursday night in Smithland.

The first game was a resumption of a game suspended due to bad weather earlier this month.  Livingston Central won the game 12-2 in five innings.

In the second game, Livingston Central needed just five innings to post a 13-0 win.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Trigg County fell to 0-12 with the loss and 0-4 in district play.

The Lady Wildcats are off until Monday when they host Mayfield (3-7) at the Complex.

Cayla Hampton receives scholarship with Mid-Continent University

Cayla Hampton realized in the seventh grade that if she outworked everyone, she would have a chance at playing volleyball past high school.  On Wednesday, she took the first step as she signed a scholarship contract to attend Mid-Continent University in Mayfield.  Hampton will receive a two-thirds athletic scholarship to attend MCU.

Hampton was joined by her family, coaches, and former Lady Wildcat teammates at the ceremony held in the high school's little theater.

She said she visited MCU and liked the small campus, which suits her fine coming from a small town.

"I really liked the campus, and it seemed like everyone knew everyone," said Hampton, who expects to enter the science field in college. 

Hampton could make an immediate impact at Mid-Continent, which is located in Mayfield.  The Cougars were just 3-20 last year, which was the school's fourth since beginning the program in 2003.  MC lost four of their 11 players on the 2006 roster to graduation.

"Cayla had the reputation of being one of the premier hitters in the region, and I think we're lucky to sign her," said MCU head coach Jon Cowan, who will enter his third season as Lady Cougar head coach.

Cowan said he expects two to three starting positions to be up for grabs, with Hampton right in the mix to battle for one of them.

Hampton will be the first TCHS volleyball player in the seven-year history of the program to play volleyball at college.

Lady Wildcat head coach Rick Erickson called Wednesday's signing "phenomenal."

"This has been a goal of the program for ages," he said.  "This can put Trigg County on the volleyball map, and I think Cayla will be a good fit there.  Maybe this will start a partnership between Trigg County and Mid-Continent."

Hampton missed most of her senior season after tearing her ACL, MCL, and meniscus last summer.  She said she has rehabbed her injury and is ready to get back into shape and get some court time in this summer.

She said she is hoping to be an outside hitter at MCU.

Mid-Continent University is a NAIA-Division I school that competes in the Trans-South Conference.

Titans Caravan to visit WKDZ Thursday

The Titans Caravan will visit WKDZ Thursday afternoon from 4pm to 5:15pm.

Pro Bowl linebacker Keith Bullock and Titans linebacker Robert Reynolds will be on hand to autograph items and pose for pictures.

T-Rac and the Titans broadcast team will also be at the caravan stop.

Billy "Moose" Morris will be cooking barbeque to benefit the Trigg County Country Ham Festival.

According to www.titansonline.com, this year marks the tenth annual caravan, which travels throughout Tennessee, southern Kentucky and northern Alabama and has visited over 400 cities in five states.

Jon Wilson signs track scholarship at EKU

Jon Wilson has signed a letter of intent to run track at Eastern Kentucky University.

Wilson, a former standout football player for Trigg County Middle School who transferred to Murray High after his freshman year at TCHS, is expected to run in the 100-meter and 200-meters at the collegiate level.

Wilson suffered an ACL injury last fall that ended his football season but is rehabbing well and should be ready to run again soon.

Area runner to compete in Australia

Hopkins County Central junior cross country runner Daniel Cotton will represent Kentucky this summer when he competes in the Down Under Games in Australia.

Oh no! Not Vince Young

It is an honor that Vince Young may not want.

It's being reported on the web that the Titans quarterback will be featured on the cover of the latest edition of the Madden NFL video game.

Why is that bad?  Let's look at the last six Madden coverboys.

• 2007 - Shaun Alexander - Alexander had never missed a game in his NFL career prior to his Madden cover.  In the first game of the 2006 season, Alexander suffered a foot fracture in the first game of the season and missed six games.
• 2006 - Donovan McNabb - He led the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2004 and suffered a sports hernia and missed the final seven games of the 2005 season.
• 2005 - Ray Lewis - The Ravens' linebacker broke his wrist and didn't play in the final regular season game, which didn't hurt the Ravens too much since they missed the playoffs after winning the division title the previous season.
• 2004 - Michael Vick - The Falcons quarterback made the Madden cover in 2003 and fractured his right fibula in a preseason game.  He only played in five games that season.
• 2003 - Marshall Faulk - Faulk suffered an ankle injury and missed five games of the 2002 season.
• 2002 - Dante Culpepper - The Vikings quarterback led Minnesota to the NFC title game in 2000.  The year he was on the Madden cover, he threw 14 TDs and 13 INTs as the Vikings finished 5-11.

If there is a silver lining to this, the last player to buck the so-called "Madden Curse" was also a Titan.  Eddie George was on the cover in 2000 and recorded career-highs in yards (1,509) and touchdowns (14).

Cayla Hampton to sign with Mid-Continent College

Cayla Hampton will make school history this week when she becomes the first TCHS volleyball player to sign to play volleyball in college.

Hampton will sign to play at Mid-Continent University Wednesday afternoon at a 2pm ceremony at the high school.

Hampton could make an immediate impact at Mid-Continent, which is located in Mayfield.  The Cougars were just 3-20 last year, which was the school's fourth since beginning the program in 2003.  MC lost four of their 11 players on the 2006 roster to graduation.

Hampton was an all-district and all-region performer at Trigg County during her junior season but suffered a knee injury over the summer that caused her to miss almost all of the 2006 season.

She would become the first TCHS volleyball player to play in college in the seven-year history of the Trigg County program.

Cole Davis to walk on at Murray State

Cole Davis will walk on at Murray State this fall with the hopes of making the football team as a kicker.

Davis said in an e-mail to me Monday that the Racer coaching staff had contacted him after he sent some game tapes to them.  After visiting the campus, Davis said he decided to walk on at Murray State and try to make the team in the kicking game.

Davis will attend Murray on a partial academic scholarship.

Davis was 43-of-50 on extra points last year, which was the third most in school history.  His six field goals set a new school record for FGs in a season.

His 47-yard field goal in the playoffs proved to be the game-winner against Caldwell County and tied a school record for distance.

Davis also had a 31.7 yards per punt average, with a long of 55, and nailed six punts inside the 20-yard line.

Trigg County 9 Livingston Central 3

Trigg County snapped an 11-game losing streak to Livingston Central dating back to 2003 with a 9-3 win over the Cardinals Monday at the Complex.

Lucas Riddle pitched six strong innings, giving up six hits, two runs, and struck out four to pick up the win for the Wildcats.

Trigg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning and added four more runs in the fifth inning to break the game wide open.

Eight different Wildcats rapped out 12 hits in a balanced offensive attack.  Will Stagner, Kyle Allen, Lucas Riddle, and Taylor Lowary each had two hits for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats were able to overcome six errors on defense, with just one of the runs allowed being an earned run.

Trigg County is 5-8 overall and now 1-0 in district play.  Livingston Central fell to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Trigg returns to action Thursday at Lyon County, who lost 8-3 to Crittenden County Monday.

Lone Oak 14 Trigg County 4

Lone Oak scored in every inning but the first and handed Trigg County a 14-4 loss Monday afternoon at the Complex.

The Lady Wildcats had just four hits, with Dakota Littlejohn, Hayla Frye, Kayla Joiner, and Osami Ota each recording singles.  Joiner drove in two as part of a three-run sixth inning.

Lone Oak had seven hits in the game and took advantage of six Lady Wildcat errors.  The Lady Flash snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-6 on the season.

After scoring just one run in 15 innings, the Lady Wildcat offense is showing signs of life with 15 runs in their last 17 innings.

Trigg County (0-10) returns to action Thursday at Livingston Central.

Baseball/Softball on WKDZ today

Baseball AND softball returns to AM-1110 WKDZ today as both Trigg County teams are in action at the Complex.

The Lady Wildcats (0-9) look for their first win today against Lone Oak (2-6) at 5pm at the Complex. 

The Wildcats (4-8) look to move to 2-0 in district play as they host Livingston Central (6-6) today at 5pm at the Complex.

We'll have coverage of both games beginning with the Dixon Septic and Backhoe Dugout Show at 4:45pm.  I'll be going back and forth between games and will continue until the final out is made in both games.  Sort of a 2-for-1 deal today.

Franklin-Simpson 27 Trigg County 2

Franklin-Simpson used a 15-run fifth inning to beat Trigg County 27-2 Friday in the Franklin-Simpson Round Robin.

The 27 runs allowed is thought to be a school record, but I'm not 100% sure. 

F-S had five hits, and took advantage of two walks and two errors in their big inning.

Dakota Littlejohn and Kalesha Williams each had two hits, and Whitney Cain added a single.

Lady Wildcat head coach Jamie Howell said Trigg began the night with 11 players, but Hayla Frye may have suffered a broken nose in warmups and Danni Romero was injured in the first game.

"We had some players decide not to make the trip for various reasons, and we had to move two JV players into the lineup and out of position in the second game," Howell said.

Trigg County (0-9) returns to action Monday against Lone Oak at 5pm at the Complex.

Radford/Wallace Invitational moved to Thursday

The Radford/Wallace Invitational Track Meet scheduled for Friday was postponed because of bad weather.

The annual event will be held Thursday at Perdue Field.

Warren Central 19 Trigg County 9

Warren Central broke open a close game with eight runs in the fifth inning to beat Trigg County 19-9 Friday in the Franklin-Simpson Round Robin.

Trigg County, which had scored just one run in their previous 15 innings, got some offense going against Warren Central, who matched the Lady Wildcats inning for inning.

The Lady Wildcats (0-8) scored one run in the first, three in the second, and five runs in the third inning but still trailed 10-9 after three innings.

Warren Central (5-3) put the game away with eight runs in the fifth inning.

Samantha Furr had two hits and three RBIs to pace the nine-hit Trigg attack.  Kalesha Williams had two doubles and an RBI, and Asami Ota had two singles.

Dakota Littlejohn had a two-RBI single, while Rachel Gasky and Danni Romero each had a hit.

Union County 4 Trigg County 3

Union County tied the game in the seventh inning and beat Trigg County in the eighth inning on an error to claim the 4-3 win Thursday in Morganfield.

Trigg County out hit the Braves 9-6 but committed five errors, including two in the final inning that eventually sealed their fate.

Donald Bush had three hits, including a double.  He also pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up the loss on the mound.

Will Stagner, Kyle Allen, John David Fourqurean, Lucas Riddle, Ryan Eubanks, and Tyler Greenman all had a hit for the Wildcats.

Trigg County (4-8) returns to action Saturday afternoon when they play at St. Mary in a 2pm contest in Paducah.

Titans release 2007 schedule

The Tennessee Titans have released their 2007 football schedule.

Tennessee will travel to Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, New Orleans and Tampa Bay.

Todd County Central 11 Trigg County 0

Trigg County was shut out for the second straight game, losing to Todd County Central 11-0 Tuesday in Elkton.  The game lasted six innings.

Todd County scored four runs in the second inning, two more in both the third and fourth innings, and ended the game with a four-run fifth inning.

Hayla Frye had Trigg County's lone hit -- a double.

Trigg County did win the JV game 9-4.

The Lady Wildcats are 0-7 on the season and will play in the Franklin-Simpson Round Robin Friday in Franklin.

Trigg County 4 Caldwell County 3

Trigg County snapped a four-game losing streak to Caldwell County with a 4-3 win over the Tigers Tuesday in Princeton.

The Wildcats rapped out 13 hits in the game but could only push across four runs.

Will Stagner, Kyle Allen, and Ryan Eubanks each had three hits for the Wildcats.  Tyler Greenman added two hits, and Caleb Reynolds and John David Fourqurean each had one hit.  Fourqurean had the only extra base hit -- a double.

Lucas Riddle picked up the complete game win, walking seven, striking out seven, and giving up just four hits.

Caldwell's Ryan Stevens had two of Caldwell's four hits.  Brandon Bell suffered the pitching loss for the Tigers, who fell to 3-7 with the loss.

Trigg County is now 4-7 on the season and will make the incredibly long trip to Union County Thursday.

The JV team won their second straight game, beating Caldwell 13-2.  Josh Green, Tony Bryant, and R.J. Sholar each had two hits, and Shane Banks picked up the pitching win.

On Monday, Trigg County scored 10 runs in the first inning and held off Todd County for the 11-8 win.

Archery scholarship winners

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has posted pictures of the statewide scholarship winners from last week's state archery meet on their website.

Grady Cofield (left) won a $1,250 college scholarship by winning the mini-tournament. 

Amber Abate ($750) and Danielle Reddick ($500) also won college scholarship money in the female division.

Pacman = Game Over

For Pacman, it wasn't Winky, Blinky, Inky, and Clyde that did him in, it was his own behavior.

Titans defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones was suspended for the 2007 football season on Tuesday by the NFL, who cited his off the field behavior as the main reason.

This pretty much assures us that Jones and his penchant for carrying around large amounts of $1 bills will not be part of the Titans caravan that will be visiting the WKDZ Studios April 19.

Trigg County 9 Todd County 8

Tony Finley hit a pinch-hit two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to send Trigg County past Todd County Central 9-8 Monday at the Complex.

With Trigg down 8-7, Lucas Riddle walked to lead off the seventh inning, and Donald Bush and Shane Banks reached on consecutive errors before Finley's game winning hit.

Riddle pitched the final two innings in relief of Taylor Lowary to pick up the pitching win.

Devon Morris was 2-for-2 with his second home run of the season.  Will Stagner also added two hits for the Wildcats, who got singles from John David Fourqurean, Kyle Allen, and Donald Bush.

Trigg County (3-7) returns to action today at Caldwell County in a 4:30pm contest in Princeton.  Caldwell County (2-5) beat UHA 10-2 Monday.

Former Cat John Pelphrey to be named Arkansas head coach

FOXsports.com is reporting that Arkansas will name former Kentucky basketball player and current South Alabama coach John Pelphrey the new Razorbacks head coach at a Monday press conference.

Pelphrey was 80-67 in five years at USA.

Van Buren, Ohio 3 Trigg County 2

Trigg County concluded their Florida swing with a 3-2 loss to Van Buren, Ohio Friday at Fort Walton Beach.  The Wildcats fell to 2-7 on the season with their 1-4 trip to the Sunshine State.

Van Buren scored a run in the first and two more in the fourth inning.  Lucas Riddle doubled home two runs in the fourth inning for Trigg's only runs.

Caleb Reynolds and Devon Morris each had two hits, while Kyle Allen and Will Stagner both had singles.

Tony Finley pitched a complete game six-hitter, taking the loss by allowing two earned runs in six innings.  He struck out four and walked two.

Trigg only had seven hits in the game and struck out eight times.

"It was a little disappointing today, but the trip will do us some good.  We learned a lot, and we'll be fine when we get back to Kentucky," Wildcat head coach Jackie Sholar said.

Trigg lost the JV game 4-3 as Shane Banks took the pitching loss for the Wildcats despite striking out 11 batters.

Trigg County returns to action Monday against Todd County Central at the Complex.  The JV will play first at 5pm, and the varsity game will follow at 7pm.

Get to know the new UK basketball coach

Texas A & M coach Billy Gillispie will be introduced as the new UK basketball coach at a press conference later today.
