I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about hunting dogs. But I do know that a Hopkinsville man has a dog primed to be in the hunt (pun intended) for the finals of the 108th running of the National Championship for Field Trialing Bird Dogs at Ames Plantation in Grand Junction, Tenn.
BB's Pike, owned by Bill Bruce of Hopkinsville and handled by Ray Warren, braved the 26-degree temperature Wednesday to share two finds and come up with three finds of his own. BB's Pike and Whippoorwill Wild Agin of Mississippi had the best hunt of the day and both finished the three-hour run.
Next week, Gary Lester of Gracey will compete with Lester's Snowatch in the second week of the competition, which features about 36 English Pointers and/or English Setters that won or placed in 70 qualifying trials throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Several thousand field trial enthusiasts from all over the world attend the event each year.
