Swimmers do well at Paducah Tilghman Invitational

Trigg County's swimmers prepped for this weekend's region tournament Monday at the 12-team Paducah Tilghman Invitational -- their final regular season meet of the year.

Here are the results of the meet.

Trigg County will compete at the region tournament Saturday in Owensboro.  I'll have a map and directions on Friday.

Lyon County advances in the All-A Tournament

Lyon County advanced to the second round of the Touchstone Energy All-A State Tournament with an easy 58-35 win over Kentucky Country Day in Richmond.

The Lady Lyons jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter and led 37-17 at halftime.

Hayley Parrent hit four 3-pointers and led Lyon with 19 points.  Allison Mussato added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Olivia Akridge chipped in with seven points and 13 assists.

Lyon County hit 50% from the field and forced 29 KCD turnovers.

Lyon County (14-5) will play Cumberland County (18-2) Friday afternoon at 1:30pm (ET).  Cumberland County thrashed Hazard 76-32 in the other first round game.

Calloway County 72 Trigg County 50

Calloway County shot 49% from the field and hit 16-of-18 free throws on their way to a 72-50 win over Trigg County Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

The Wildcats didn't have an answer for Calloway's inside game, which outscored Trigg 30-16 in the paint.

Landon Lockhart came off the bench to score 20 points and grab 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who improved to 14-8 with their fourth straight win over the Wildcats dating back to 1988.

Calloway also outrebounded Trigg County 37-23.

Trigg was led in scoring by Rodney Davis, who scored 18 points on 7-of-25 shooting.  Jonathon King added 10 points, and Jalik Alexander had a career-high nine points and eight rebounds.

The Wildcats fall to 6-13 on the season and will play at Henderson County Saturday.

Calloway County at Trigg County

Trigg County looks to end a three-game losing streak tonight when they host Calloway County at Wildcat Gym.

The Wildcats are 6-12 this year, while the Lakers come to Cadiz with a record of 13-8.  Calloway has played two other Second Region teams in the past two weeks, losing to Caldwell County 65-58 and Christian County 67-57.  On Friday, they beat Marshall County 51-47.

Trigg County leads the all-time series with Calloway 8-7 but have not beaten the Lakers since the 1988 Crittenden County Christmas Tournament.  Since then, they have lost three straight to Calloway, including their last meeting in 1996.

Trigg easily wins IronCat Classic

Trigg County made history Saturday in winning the IronCat Classic, becoming the first school to ever sweep first through fifth place in a single event in the 14-year history of the event.

Helped by their sweep, the Wildcats beat second place Hopkins Central by over 1,000 pounds.   The IronCat takes each lifter’s total in the deadlift, the bench press, and the squat, then adds the three totals. The 11 highest totals count towards the team score.

Trigg County's total of 5,815 pounds in the deadlift was the second-highest in the event's history, behind only Madisonville's total of 6,035 in 2005.

"I thought it was a great day for us," said Wildcat powerlifting coach Erin Eagleson.  "We had several people who haven't even tapped what they can do, and I think some of them realize that after today."

Trigg County is scheduled to compete in Hopkinsville's Best of the West Tournament in two weeks.

Area newspapers win awards for sports coverage

For the sixth straight year, The Cadiz Record has been recognized statewide for its sports coverage.

The Kentucky Press Association's Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers Contest winners were announced over the weekend in Louisville.

Sports Editor Michael Stanley won second place in the weekly Class 2 category for Sports Page layout; third place for Sports Column; and third place for Best Sports Feature for his story on new Lady Wildcat soccer coach Mike Smith.

Stanley's three sports awards were the only awards won by the newspaper out of a possible 27 categories that include coverage of general news, spot news, continuing coverage, photography, investigative reporting, editorials, and newspaper web pages.  Stanley also only had a two-month window in which to enter eligible articles.

Of the weekly papers in this class, the Spencer Magnet proved to have the best sports coverage based on awards won in the six sports categories, followed by the Interior Journal, the Springfield Sun, and The Cadiz Record in fourth.

In the Weekly Class 1 category, the Todd County Standard won a first place sports award for Best Sports Picture Essay; and second place for Best Sports Column.

The Lyon County Herald Ledger won third place for Best Sports Page/Section.

In the Weekly Class 3 category for larger weeklies, The Marshall County Tribune Courier won third place for Best Sports Page/Section.

In the Multi-weekly category, the Princeton Times Leader won first place awards for Best Sports Column and Best Sports Page/Section.  Kudos to Todd Griffin for having one of the best sports pages in the state.

In the small daily category, the Murray Ledger & Times took third place for Best Sports Page/Section.

In the Daily Class II category, the Kentucky New Era won first place for Best Sports Column by George Robinson, who is now at the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle.  It was the only sports award won by the KNE, who took third place in General Excellence for news coverage.

The Paducah Sun did not win any awards for sports coverage.

Entries are voted on by press association members from other states.

All-A State Pairings announced

The brackets are set for the All-A State Tournament that begins this week in Richmond.

UHA beat Fort Campbell 77-62 Saturday to win the regional title and will advance to Richmond with a 9-9 record and a five-game winning streak.  The Blazers will play Heath (14-6) Thursday at 1:30pm (ET).

Lyon County won their second straight All-A regional title with a 65-52 win over Livingston Central Saturday.  The Lady Lyons (13-5) got a decent first round draw and will play Kentucky Country Day (13-9) Wednesday night at 8pm (ET).

Kentucky vs. Tennessee

Kentucky and Tennessee used to be a heated rivalry on the hardwood.  After becoming dormant for a few years, the series has picked back up the intensity with the arrival of Bruce Pearl in Knoxville.

Today, they meet at Rupp Arena for the first of two regular season meetings.

UK owns the all-time series 138-63, including an 82-16 record in Lexington.  UK has won nine of the last 10 meetings.

Carlisle County 56 Trigg County 44

A cold third quarter for the Lady Wildcats and a huge advantage at the free throw line for Carlisle County proved to be the difference as the Lady Comets beat Trigg 56-44 Friday night near Bardwell.

Three Trigg County players fouled out as Carlisle County hit 29-of-39 free throws on the night.  Trigg was just 7-of-21 at the line.  Carlisle had 12 field goals and 29 free throws in the game.

Trigg led 13-9 after one quarter and 25-23 at halftime.  However, Carlisle outscored Trigg 12-5 in the third quarter to lead 35-30 after three quarters.  Getting most of their points at the line in the fourth quarter, Carlisle outscored Trigg 21-14 in the final quarter.

Laquisha Boyd led Trigg County with 13 points, while Brooke Allen and Dori Sheehan each had career highs of 10 points.  Janada Acree added six points, Brooke Kearney three, and Kelci Winn two points.

Elizabeth Carter led Carlisle County (5-10) with 21 points.

Trigg County got the win in the JV game 43-32 as Elysia Brown scored 20 points to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Trigg's varsity falls to 4-15 with their fifth straight loss.  The Lady Wildcats get another week off before traveling to Muhlenberg South next Friday for their final road game before five straight home games.

IronCat Classic Saturday

The 14th annual Trigg County IronCat Classic will be Saturday at Trigg County Middle School Gym.  The first lifting will begin at 10am.

The IronCat takes each lifter’s total in the deadlift, the bench press, and the squat, then adds the three totals. The 11 highest totals count towards the team score.

Trigg County won the first two IronCat titles in 1994 and 1995 and have since won two of the last three titles.  Last year, Trigg edged Madisonville by 175 pounds.

Among the Trigg lifters who could compete for an individual title this year are Devin Herndon, who finished second in the bench press (340 pounds); Henry Wharton, who was fifth in the squat (425 pounds); and Montrell Humphries, who was fifth in the dead lift (550 pounds).

The IronCat serves as a precursor for the State Powerlifting Meet that will be held March 17.

Trigg County at Carlisle County

Trigg County makes another trip to the First Region tonight when they play at Carlisle County in a JV/varsity contest near Bardwell.

The Lady Wildcats were originally scheduled to play at University Heights, but their progression in the All-A Regional Tournament caused them to drop the game.  Head coach Amy Breckel said the game with UHA will not be rescheduled.

Trigg County is 4-14 and haven't played since losing to Fort Campbell last week at Wildcat Gym.

Carlisle County is 4-10 and have lost six straight games, including their All-A regional first round game with Murray earlier this week.

Davis, Acree still among state leaders

Rodney Davis and Janada Acree are still among the state leaders in scoring and rebounding, according to stats released Thursday by the KHSAA.

Davis and his 25.6 ppg. average through 14 games ranks sixth in the state.  Elizabethtown's Steffphon Pettigrew leads the state at 35.4 ppg., while Caldwell County's Matt Fraliex is second at 33.4 ppg.

Davis has dropped out of the top 20 in free throw percentage.

On the girls side, Janada Acree ranks sixth in the state in rebounding at 12.4 a game.  Fern Creek's Monique Reid leads the state in both scoring (32.1) and rebounding (15.7) this week.

Louisville to open 2007 football season with Murray State

New Louisville head football coach Steve Kragthorpe will make his Cardinal debut against Murray State Aug. 30 at Papa Johns Stadium.

For Murray's sake, I hope the paycheck is a big one.

Lady Wildcats make quick schedule change

With UHA winning their first round game in the All-A Regional Tournament and advancing to tonight's semifinal round, the Lady Blazers have opted out of their Friday game with Trigg County.  The game was scheduled to be played in Hopkinsville.

Instead, the Lady Wildcats will now travel to Carlisle County Friday night (6pm JV/7:30 varsity) for the first time.  The two teams met twice in Trigg County's 12 Games of Christmas -- in 2001 and 2002.

Carlisle County is 4-10 on the year, while Trigg County is 4-14. 

I'll have more on the blog about the game tomorrow as well as a Google Map telling you how to get there.

UK women vs. Mississippi State

The UK women play another SEC West opponent tonight when they travel to Starkville to face the Lady Bulldogs.

The series is tied 15-15, but Mississippi State has won 10 of the last 12 meetings.

Airtime on 106.5 WKDZ is 6pm.

Lone Oak 62 Trigg County 45

Lone Oak used a strong third quarter to hand the Wildcats a 62-45 setback in Paducah Tuesday night.

Jonathon King's halfcourt shot at the halftime buzzer pulled Trigg to within 24-22, but the Purple Flash outscored the Wildcats 24-11 in the third quarter to lead 48-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

"It's really frustrating because we just aren't shooting the ball like we can.  We're just not hitting our shots, and it's something we haven't been doing in the past few games," said Wildcat head coach Jeff Embrey.

The Wildcats shot 35-percent from the field and hit just 8-of-19 from the free throw line -- the third straight game they've hit less than 50-percent at the charity stripe.

Rodney Davis led the Wildcat scoring with 16 points, while Zack Wright added 11, and Jonathon King scored 10.

Luke Shuemaker led Lone Oak (9-13) with 12 points as 11 players scored for the Purple Flash.

The Wildcats fall to 6-12 on the season and have a week off before hosting Calloway County next Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

Kentucky at Georgia

Kentucky travels to Athens for their first of two meetings with the Bulldogs in SEC play this year.

UK leads the all-time series with Georgia 106-21, including a 36-14 record in Athens.

Kentucky has won five straight against Georgia and will be looking for their third straight win in Athens for the first time since 1999-2001.

UK is 4-1 in conference play, while Georgia is 3-2.

The blog now has maps

You probably have noticed the blog looks different today.  We have changed the design a little to allow more room for pictures and our newest feature -- maps.

The new design means the pictures you send will be larger.  The new maps will give you directions to road games and other locations where directions may be necessary.  The Google Maps can be zoomed in or zoomed out and have a destination marker with the actual street address.  Today, you will find a map of Lone Oak High School where Trigg County has a game tonight.

Trigg County at Lone Oak

After a week off, Trigg County takes to the hardwood tonight at Lone Oak.

The Wildcats are 6-11 on the season and haven't played since losing to Crittenden County last Tuesday in Marion.

Lone Oak comes into tonight's game with a record of 8-13 and have alternated wins and losses over the last six games.  They lost to Heath Saturday night.

The last time Trigg County played Lone Oak was in 1990, a 73-60 loss.  Lone Oak has won two of the three career meetings, with Trigg's only win coming in 1979.

All-A region tourney begins tonight

The Second Region All-A Classic Tournament begins tonight, with the girls playing four first round games at different sites.  For the first time in 17 years, Trigg County will not be a part of the All-A Tournament because their enrollment exceeds the minimum limit.

The semifinals will be Thursday at Crittenden County and the championship game will be Saturday.

UK women at Auburn

The UK women try to end an eight-game losing streak against Auburn today.  Auburn leads the all-time series with UK 23-9 and haven't lost to the Lady Wildcats at home since 1998.

Mediacom dispute means no UK basketball for local viewers

If you are a subscriber to Mediacom cable, you by now know that three Nashville stations (channels 6, 12, and 13) have been pulled at the request of their owners (Sinclair Broadcasting).  Mediacom has been able to plug in WBKO-TV out of Bowling Green to replace the FOX affiliate out of Nashville (Ch. 6).

However, Nashville channel 30 (which was channel 13 on the local Mediacom service) has been yanked, and as a result, so has several UK basketball games.

Today's game against Vanderbilt was carried by the Lincoln Financial TV Network (formerly Jefferson Pilot).  JP games used to be carried by TV-43 in Hopkinsville and Channel 4 out of Nashville.  Both have stopped carrying the games in recent years.

That left channel 30 (Mediacom Ch. 13) as the only Lincoln Financial/JP station on the Mediacom lineup.

What does that mean for UK fans?  It means that if Mediacom and Sinclair don't reach an agreement soon to get those channels back on the air, UK fans will not see live TV coverage of these games --

• Jan. 24 at Georgia
• Feb. 3 at Arkansas
• Feb. 17 at Alabama
• Feb. 25 at Vanderbilt
• Feb. 28 vs. Georgia
• The ENTIRE SEC Tournament (except for the title game which is on CBS)

Those people with DISH Network or DirecTV are not affected and still get Sinclair stations.

Jeff Adams happy at Louisville

Despite a new coach and not seeing a second of playing time in 2006, Jeff Adams is happy at Louisville and will stay and play for new Cardinals coach Steve Kragthorpe.

Jeff's mother Cheryl told me at the TCHS football banquet that he was using his redshirt season to get used to the college workload and that the coaching change would not affect his desire to play for Louisville.

Adams is projected to play on the offensive line for UL.

UK football recruit killed in car crash

A three-star Kentucky football recruit was killed in a weekend traffic crash in Georgia.

John Keye was a 6-6 receiver from Jackson High School in Jackson, Georgia.

Curtis Pulley leaves UK

Former Hopkinsville standout and Mr. Football Curtis Pulley has left UK, according to the web site Bluegrasspreps.com. The unconfirmed source says Pulley would be redshirted next year if he does return to Kentucky.

UK head coach Rich Brooks says Pulley has some academic issues to clear up.

Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt swept the season series with UK last year for the first time since 1974.  UK hasn't lost three-in-a-row to the Commodores since that same 1974 season.

UK leads the all-time series with Vandy 129-39, including a 71-13 record in Lexington.  In 1945, the game was played in Paducah, with Kentucky winning 64-31.

Tyler Mitchell wins first SJG match

Tyler Mitchell won his first match on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, winning the 16-18-year-old division of the Craft Farms Junior Classic last weekend at Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Mitchell shot a pair of 4-over-par 76s to finish at +8 and win by two shots over Myers Marshall of Daphne, Alabama and Jack Wall of Carrollton, Georgia.

Mitchell, a junior at TCHS, earned 1,000 tour points for the win and leads the standings for the 16-18 age group.

The Southeastern Junior Golf Tour allows junior golfers a chance to play competitive golf while building their resume for a potential collegiate golf career.The SJGT was founded in 1994 with six tournaments and 60 members.

Now, SJGT has expanded the schedule to 39 events and boasts over 1200 members. The SJGT not only has attracted a large number of junior golfers over the years but has also proven to be an attractive audience for corporate sponsors.

Fort Campbell 64 Trigg County 45

After suffering some technical difficulties with my home internet connection, we're back up and going.

The can't be said for the Lady Wildcats who suffered their fourth straight loss with a 64-45 loss to Fort Campbell Thursday night at Wildcat Gym.

Fort Campbell took control of the game with a 22-12 second quarter to lead 39-24 at intermission.

The Lady Falcons hit 4 out of 6 on three-pointers in the first half to help build their lead.

Laquisha Boyd led Trigg County with 17 points, while Janada Acree added eight points and 14 rebounds.  Dori Sheehan and Kalesha Williams each scored six for the Lady Wildcats.

Lindsey Handley led Fort Campbell with 27 points.

UK women at LSU

The UK women face one of their toughest tests to date tonight when they travel to the bayou to play LSU in Baton Rouge.

LSU leads the all-time series with Kentucky 22-7 and have won the last 10-in-a-row dating back to the 1999 SEC Tournament.  The last time UK won at LSU was 1995.

Fort Campbell at Trigg County

Trigg County will try and put a kabosh on a three-game losing streak when they host Fort Campbell tonight at Wildcat Gym.

Trigg enters the game with a 4-13 record and haven't won since beating Fulton City Jan. 6.  The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 59-36 loss at Crittenden County Tuesday.

Fort Campbell is 3-8 and have lost four of their last five games, with an 82-20 win over Providence Jan. 8 the only victory in that stretch.

The teams met Dec. 27 in the first round of the McLean County RC Cola Classic with Fort Campbell outscoring Trigg 20-4 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 61-36 win.

Janada Acree led the Lady Wildcats in that game with 17 points, while Fort Campbell was led by Valerie Mack, who scored 19 of her game-high 34 points in the second half.

Fort Campbell leads the all-time series with Trigg 29-21 and have won six of the last seven meetings.

Tipoff for the varsity game tonight is 7:30pm.

Crittenden County 53 Trigg County 45

Crittenden County clinched the top seed in the Fifth District Tournament Tuesday with a 53-45 win over Trigg County in Marion.  Trigg County will be the #2 seed in the district tournament.

Trigg County used a 9-0 fourth quarter run to tie the game at 40 with 2:15 left in the game.  But Crittenden County hit their next three shots and seven straight free throws to end the game on a 13-5 run.

The Wildcats suffered through another tough shooting night, hitting 3-of-19 shots (15%) in the first half and 16-of-55 (29%) for the game.  Trigg was a miserable 3-of-21 (14%) from 3-point range.

Crittenden County shot 50% from the field and 69% from the free throw line.  Crittenden also won the rebounding battle 38-22.

Rodney Davis scored 21 points on 6-of-20 shooting from the field.  Jonathon King added eight points on 3-of-15 shooting.

Gage Courtney led Crittenden County with 16 points, and Josh Cosby added 10 points.

The Rockets are now 6-5 overall and 4-1 in district play.

Trigg County falls to 6-11 overall with the loss and 3-3 in district play -- the first time in four years the Wildcats have lost three district games.

The Wildcats return to action next Tuesday at Lone Oak.

Crittenden County 59 Trigg County 36

Trigg County remained winless in the new Rocket Arena, losing their fourth straight game to the Lady Rockets in Marion.  Crittenden jumped out to a 23-5 lead and ran away for a 59-36 win Tuesday night in Marion.

The loss drops Trigg County to 4-13 overall and 1-5 overall.  Crittenden County is now 3-12 overall and 1-4 in the district.  If the Lady Rockets lose at Lyon County Friday as expected, a coin toss will determine the #3 and #4 seed in next month's district tournament.

Crittenden led 14-5 after one quarter and 31-15 at halftime.

Trigg shot 35-percent from the field -- four points above their season average -- but 37 turnovers that led to 21 Crittenden points did them in.  14-of-33 shooting (42%) from the free throw line also didn't help.

Laquisha Boyd was the lone Lady Wildcat in double figures with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Janada Acree added eight points and eight rebounds.

Ali Shewcraft hit 13-of-18 free throws and led Crittenden County with 24 points.

UK promotes Brown to defensive coordinator

Rich Brooks has promoted secondary coach Steve Brown to defensive coordinator, replacing Mike Archer, who is likely to be the new DC at North Carolina State.

Trigg County at Crittenden County (gals)

The Lady Wildcats can clinch the #3 seed in the district tournament with a win tonight at Crittenden County.  Trigg is 1-4 in district play, while Crittenden County is 0-3.  A win would give the Lady Wildcats two district wins for the first time in four years.

The Lady Wildcats are 4-12 overall and have dropped four of their last five games.  Crittenden County is 2-11 and have dropped three straight games.

Trigg County beat Crittenden 48-39 last month at Wildcat Gym behind a huge game from Janada Acree (21 points 14 rebounds).

Crittenden County leads the all-time series 40-32, including a 22-11 record against the Lady Wildcats in games played in Marion.

Trigg County at Crittenden County

The top seed in next month's district tournament is on the line tonight when Trigg County travels to Crittenden County to face the Rockets.

Trigg County is 3-2 in district play, while Crittenden County is 3-1 and already own a win over the Wildcats.  Trigg County can still clinch the top seed in the district with a win over the Rockets and a Crittenden loss to Lyon County Friday.  If Trigg wins tonight and Crittenden wins Friday, a coin toss will be held to determine the top seed.  If Crittenden wins tonight, Trigg is the #2 seed.

The Wildcats are 6-10 overall and are expected to have the services of Rodney Davis tonight, after missing Saturday's 72-33 loss to Owensboro because of a death in the family.

Crittenden County snapped a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats last month with a 63-53 win in Cadiz.  The Wildcats shot just 17/70 from the field (24%) and a chilly 5/30 (16%) from 3-point range.

Trigg County leads the all-time series with the Rockets 71-37, including a 33-16 record in Marion.

As I figure out the neat gadgets, I will keep adding them to the blog to make it even more user friendly.

UK women vs. Ole Miss

The UK women return to WKDZ this afternoon when they host Ole Miss at Memorial Coliseum.

UK is just 8-18 against the Lady Rebs but have won three straight in the series.

Owensboro 70 Trigg County 33

Playing without their leading scorer, Trigg County took their lumps against Owensboro Saturday at the Autism Classic, losing 70-33.

Trigg shot just 23% from the field (11/46) and were forced into 22 turnovers by the Red Devils, who used a stifling pressure defense to race out to a 42-18 halftime lead.

"They pressed our socks off for three quarters, and we just didn't shoot well," said Wildcat head coach Jeff Embrey.  "They beat us in every phase of the game, and we didn't match up well with them."

Jonathon King led Trigg County with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.  Jalik Alexander and Zeke Wright each scored five points.

Trigg County played without Rodney Davis and his brother Brad due to a death in the family.

Jamison Johnson and Myron Christian led Owensboro (11-4) with 16 points apiece.

The game was Trigg County's first against the Red Devils and the first time they have played in Owensboro.

The Wildcats fall to 6-10 and will play at Crittenden County Tuesday.

Perry sisters plugging on

Sisters Jade and Jasmine Perry were teammates at Muhlenberg North High School, helping the Lady Stars to the Third Region title a couple of years ago.  One sister joined the Army and served in Iraq.  The other sister went to college at the University of Maryland and was a part of a nation title team.

Kentucky vs. Mississippi State

Kentucky plays their third straight SEC West opponent tonight when Mississippi State comes to Rupp Arena.

Tonight is the 105th meeting between the schools, and UK leads the series 93-11.  Kentucky has won five straight vs. the Bulldogs, 10 of the last 11 overall, and has a 47-2 record vs. Mississippi State in Lexington. 

UK is 42-4 vs. Miss. State in Lexington, last losing to the Bulldogs at Rupp in 1995.

Lyon County 71 Trigg County 31

Lyon County got off to a fast start and maintained it as they beat Trigg County 71-31 Friday night at Wildcat Gym.  It was Trigg's worst loss to the Lady Lyons in ten years.

Hayley Parrent hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Allison Mussato came off the bench to score 18 points.

Laquisha Boyd led Trigg with seven points, while 8th grader Brooke Kearney added six.

Lyon County scored 34 points off 21 Trigg County turnovers and outrebounded the Lady Wildcats 31-20.

Lyon County improves to 9-4 overall and clinches the top seed in the Fifth District Tournament with a 5-0 record.

Trigg County falls to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in district play.  The Lady Wildcats can clinch the third seed in the district tournament with a win at Crittenden County Tuesday.

Trigg County 67 Lyon County 44

Trigg County scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back as they blitzed Lyon County 67-44 Friday night at Wildcat Gym.

Trigg hit 11-of-22 three-pointers in the game and shot 53-percent from the field for the game. 

The Wildcats used a switching variety of defenses to hold Lyon County to 42-percent shooting.

Rodney Davis hit 9-of-16 shots, including 8-of-12 from 3-point range, for a game-high 27 points.  Zack Wright added 13 points, and Jonathon King had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Lyon County was led by Ramsey Walker's 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Lyon outrebounded Trigg 29-20 but turned the ball over 17 times that led directly to 21 Trigg points.  Trigg had only seven turnovers.

Trigg County will play in the Owensboro Autism Classic tonight at 6pm against Owensboro (10-4) in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Hopkins Central and Frederick Fraize will play at 4pm and Central Hardin and Owensboro Catholic will play at 8pm.

The games will be played at the Owensboro Sports Center.

I will be live blogging the Trigg/Lyon boys game tonight.  Tip-off is running late because of the JV game.

Lyon County at Trigg County

Trigg County will entertain Lyon County tonight in a boys/girls doubleheader at Wildcat Gym.  The boys play the first game at 6pm, followed by the gals at 7:30pm.

Trigg County is 5-9 overall and 2-2 in district play.  They still have a chance at clinching the top seed in the district if Livingston beats Crittenden tonight and the Wildcats win both tonight and Tuesday at Crittenden County.

Lyon County is 1-3 in the district and 1-13 overall.  That one win was a 50-47 win over the Wildcats in Eddyville last month that snapped a 35-game losing streak.  Lyon hasn't won since but appears to be playing better in recent weeks.

Trigg County and Lyon County have met 128 times since 1948.  Both teams have won 64 games.  In the 128 games, Lyon County has scored a total of just nine more points than Trigg County.

In the girls contest, Lyon County can clinch the top seed in the district with a win over the Lady Wildcats tonight, while a Lady Wildcat win would snap an eight-game losing streak to Lyon and set them up for a third seed.

The Lady Wildcats are 4-11 overall and 1-3 in district play, while Lyon County is 8-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 inside the district.  Lyon beat Trigg 59-37 last month, scoring 33 points off 38 Trigg turnovers.

Acree, Boyd among state rebound leaders

Trigg County sophomore Janada Acree ranks as the state's fourth leading rebounder, according to statistics released by the KHSAA.

Through ten games, Acree was averaging 14.2 rebounds a game, while teammate Laquisha Boyd ranked 17th with 10.3 boards a game.

Caldwell County's Melly Heaton is the state's third leading scorer at 25.9 points a game and ranks third in 3-pointers made per game (3.0).
