Fort Campbell outscored Trigg County 20-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 61-36 win in the first round of the McLean County RC Cola Classic Wednesday.
The Lady Falcons led 11-9 after one quarter and enjoyed a 27-18 advantage at halftime. Still leading by nine (41-32) entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats endured a tough drought and could never draw closer.
"We played a good first half, but we sort of laid down in the fourth quarter and didn't play well," said Lady Wildcat assistant coach Matt Wilder. "We looked a little sluggish coming off the long weekend."
Janada Acree led the Lady Wildcats with 17 points, while Laquisha Boyd added 13 points. Melanie Want, Audrey Futrell, and Kalesha Williams each scored two points.
Valerie Mack scored 19 of her game-high 34 points in the second half for Fort Campbell, who improves to 2-4 on the season.
Fort Campbell will play McLean County tonight in the semifinals at 8:30pm.
Trigg County falls to 2-8 and will play Cannelton, Ind. tonight at 5:30pm. It will be the first time Trigg County has played a team from Indiana.
In the other two first round games, Webster County beat Whitesville Trinity 62-56 and Breckinridge County beat Crittenden County 54-42.
