Trigg County High has a new golf coach as Jim Garnett was hired last week by the school. And he’s trying to overcome a late start as other schools in the region have already begun their season.
Garnett has taught at Trigg County Middle School for four years and was a co-captain and number two golfer at Christian County High from 1989-94.
Garnett inherits the Wildcat golf team that finished second in the region last year and qualified for the state meet as a team for the first time in school history.
Back from that team are Tyler Mitchell, the region runner-up, and Taylor Lowary who also competed at the region and state meet.
Despite the last start, Garnett said the golf team will compete in the Kentucky Invitational Tournament in Louisville this weekend.
The new coach said any student who would like to try out for the golf team – boys or girls – should come to Boots Randolph Golf Course at 3:30 this week for practice.
Garnett replaces Darrett Brinker, who coached the team for one year.
