Trigg Middle girls are district runner-ups

Trigg County fell to Livingston Central 49-44 in the championship game of the 8th Grade Girls District Tournament at Eddyville Saturday.

Trigg led 43-42 with a minute left, and the game was tied at 44 with 16 seconds left when Livingston converted a three-point play to take a 47-44 lead.  Trigg missed a 3-point attempt to tie the game, and Livingston tacked on two points for the final margin.

Rachel Want led the Lady Midcats with 10 points, followed by Khadijah Grubbs and Alyssa Maxey with nine each, Alyssa Stallons with seven points, and Rodrey Jones with five points.

Trigg County won seven of their last eight games to finish the season with a record of 11-5.

Middle School district tournament rescheduled for today

Bad weather postponed Tuesday's first round of the middle school district tournament.  The tournament will begin tonight at Lyon County Middle.

Both of Trigg's teams will play the host school, Lyon County Middle.

The Lady Midcats were 4-2 in the district and will play as the two seed.  Lyon County is the three seed with a 2-4 district record.  Livingston Central was a perfect 6-0 in district play and is the top seed.

Trigg's girls will play the first game tonight at 5:30pm.  If Trigg wins, they will play in the championship game Saturday at 5:30pm.

Trigg's boys are the three seed in the tournament after breaking even with a 3-3 district mark.  Lyon County was the two seed with a 4-2 mark.  Livingston was the top seed with a 5-1 district record.

The boys title game is set for Saturday at 7pm.

Midcats to play for district titles tonight

Both Trigg County 7th grade middle school basketball teams will play for the Fifth District title tonight in Eddyville.

The Lady Midcats will play for the title at 5:30pm.  Trigg beat Lyon County 34-11 Monday night behind 19 points from Khadijah Grubbs and seven from Taylor Dinsmore.

The Midcats beat Lyon County 58-11 in their opening round win Monday behind 16 points from Deonquez Nance and 14 from Luke McKenzie.

The Midcats will play for the title at 7pm at Lyon County Middle School.

Lady Midcats split with Livingston Central

Trigg County split a girls' middle school doubleheader with Livingston Central Monday, with the 7th grade team winning 34-26, while the 8th grade lost 43-23.

In the 7th grade game, Khadijah Grubbs led the way with 17 points, while Allison Greene, Karli Bush, and Kelli Acree each had four points.

In the 8th grade game, Grubbs again led the scoring with 9 points, while Alyssa Maxey scored six, and Sierra Bush, Katie Davis, and Karli Bush each scored two points.

Trigg County returns to action next Tuesday at Livingston Central.
