Trigg Middle falls at state football tourney

Trigg County Middle School saw their football season come to an end with a 42-0 loss to Meece Middle in the semifinals of the 8th Grade Division II playoffs in Lexington.

Meece, located in Somerset, rolled to a 42-0 lead by halftime and coasted to the win.

Trigg County, who started five 7th graders on the team, finishes their season with a record of 8-3.

Midcats advance to the state football semifinals with win

Luke McKenzie's 1-yard run in overtime gave the Trigg County Midcats a 12-6 win over Russellville Saturday and sends them to Lexington next weekend for the semifinals of the state middle school football playoffs.

McKenzie's run came on a fourth down play, set up by an 8-yard run by Skylar Pool on first down.

However, when Trigg County needed a big play, it was McKenzie who took to the air to connect with Quentin Byrd.  McKenzie was 4-of-12 passing for 120 yards.  Byrd had three catches for 102 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown catch with 5:30 to go in the first half that gave Trigg a 6-0 lead.

Russellville Middle answered with 2:42 left in the first half on a 5-yard run by Desmon Quarles to tie the game at 6-6.

Russellville had two chances inside the final two minutes of regulation to score the go-ahead touchdown but turned the football over on downs and lost a fumble.  Russellville had four turnovers in the game.

Trigg outgained the Panthers 181-154, with Jayven Jones running for 54 yards on 14 carries.

Russellville had 130 yards rushing, led by Demarcus Hampton's 70-yard effort on 11 carries.  Trigg's defense held the Panthers to 13 yards rushing in the second half on 16 carries.

Trigg County is now 8-2 on the season and will play in the state middle school semifinals against either Meece Middle or West Hardin Middle next Saturday at Lexington Catholic High School.

Trigg Middle to play Christian County Middle for SPAC title tonight

Trigg County Middle will play Christian County Middle tonight at 6pm in the championship game of the Southern Pennyrile Athletic Conference at the Stadium of Champions.

Trigg won the regular season matchup 18-14.

Regardless of the outcome, Trigg County will play in the State Middle School Tourmament Saturday when they host Russellville Middle at Perdue Field.

Trigg Middle gets football scrimmage win

Trigg County Middle School scored a 14-0 win over Christian County Middle in a football jamboree over the weekend.

Skylar Pool connected with Quinton Bird on a 15-yard touchdown pass for Trigg County's first score.  Luke McKenzie later added a 20-yard TD run and then hit Mikey White on the two-point conversion pass.

Trigg's defense held CCMS to less than 60 yards of offense.

Trigg County Middle goes 1-1 at state tourney

Trigg County's 8th grade middle school basketball team split two games at the Kentucky Middle School Basketball Tournament over the weekend in Lexington.

Trigg County opened play with a 59-46 win over St. Jopseh Middle School of Cold Spring in northern Kentucky.  Their run came to an end Saturday night with a 42-30 loss to South Laurel Middle.

South Laurel advanced to the championship game where they lost to Madison Middle School of Richmond.

Hopkinsville Middle School also went 1-1 at the state tourney, beating Farnsley Middle of Louisville 37-29 in the opener before losing to Alton Middle out of Hardin County 54-27.

Trigg County ABA team takes 20th at state tournament

Trigg County's seventh grade ABA team placed 20th out of 53 teams over the weekend at the State 7th Grade Basketball Tournament in Lexington.

The ABA team took the place of Trigg County's middle school team, who opted not to play in the event because of the weather.

The ABA team opened tournament play with a 38-33 win over McGoffin County Middle School.  Trigg used a 14-8 fourth quarter to get the win as Cole Gardner had 21 points, and Luke McKenzie scored seven.  Corbin Estes and Clark Adams added five points each.

Trigg County beat Fleming County 45-27 in the second round using an 18-4 third quarter run to seal the win.  Luke McKenzie scored 21 points for Trigg County.  Cole Gardner and Corbin Estes scored six each, and Kullen Garner scored four points.  Clark Adams, Brien Dossett, and Warren Jones each scored two points.

Trigg County bowed out of the tournament with a 32-28 loss to Southern Pulaski Middle.  A 9-4 third quarter run by SPMS proved to be the difference in the game.  Cole Gardner led Trigg with 13 points, hile Luke McKenzie scored eight points, Clark Adams five, and Corbin Estes two points.

Middle School District Finals tonight

Trigg County will play in the championships of the middle school Fifth District basketball tournaments tonight at Midcat Gym.

In the first game at 5:30pm, top seed Lady Midcats of Trigg County will play #2 seed Livingston Central.

In the boys championship game at 6:30pm, top-seed Trigg County will play second seed Crittenden County.

Midcats sweep two from North Drive Middle

Trigg County swept a pair of middle school basketball games from North Drive Middle School Thursday night.

The Lady Midcats beat North Drive Middle 35-16.  Khadijah Grubbs led Trigg with 13 points, while Leonzerrae Grubbs added six, and Karlie Bush scored five points.

Trigg County ends the regular season with a record of 13-3.  They will play in the district tournament that begins Monday at Trigg County Middle.

Meanwhile, the Midcats beat North Drive 57-41 to finish the regular season with a record of 12-2, including a perfect 6-0 district mark.  They too will play in the district tournament Monday.

Trigg County 7th graders win Fifth District title

 

The Trigg County 7th grade boys team won the Fifth District championship Saturday with a 42-23 win over Crittenden County at Midcat Gym.

Luke McKenzie led Trigg with 12 points, while Cole Gardner added nine points.  KeShawn Davis and Clark Adams each scored seven points.

Trigg advanced to the title game with a 53-19 win over Lyon County in the semifinals.  Cole Gardner led Trigg with 19 points.  KeShawn Davis scored 16 points, and Luke McKenzie scored six.

Lyon County beat Livingston Central to claim the girls' district title.

The Midcats are coached by Michael Stinnett.

Trigg County finished their season with a record of 13-0.  Team members are: Clark Adams, Clarke Boyd, Nick Choate, KeSawn Davis, Brien Dossett, Corbin Estes, Cole Gardner, Kullen Gardner, Jacob Green, Jayven Jones, Warren Jones, Caleb McIntosh, Luke McKenzie, Ian Sholar, and Ben Wigand.

Midcats split games with Lone Oak

The Trigg County Middle School basketball teams split a homecoming doublheader with Lone Oak Saturday.

The guys won 77-71 as Deonquez Nance scored 28 points to pace four players in double figures.  Jermya Love added 14 points, Jordan Davis scored 12 points, and Travis Desrcohers scored 11 points.

The Midcat girls suffered their first loss to a western Kentucky team as Lone Oak held on for a 41-37 win.

Khadijah Grubbs led Trigg County with 18 points, while Leonzerrae Grubbs acored seven, and Alyssa Stallons had six.  Stallons was also named homecoming queen before the game.  Jordan Davis was named homecoming king.

Trigg County will host Hopkinsville in an 8th grade boys/girls doubleheader at Midcat Gym Tuesday at 5:30pm.
