Trigg County scored twice in the final four minutes to rally for an improbable 4-4 tie Monday night at Caldwell County.
Devon Wharton scored at the 76-minute mark to pull Trigg to within 4-3. In the game’s final minute, freshman Blaine Alexander was pulled down inside the box on a shot and awarded a penalty kick. Alexander scored with just a handful of seconds left to tie the game.
“We played well for the first 25 to 30 minutes, but we allowed Caldwell County to speed up the tempo after that,” head coach Josh Nichols said.
Trigg jumped ahead 2-0 on a penalty kick by Alexander and a goal by Jared Stallons off a pass from Ezra McNichols. Caldwell then scored four unanswered goals – two by Jessie Sherrill – to take a 4-2 lead.
Trigg County remains unbeaten at 1-0-2 on the season and will host Lyon County tonight at the Complex. Caldwell County won the JV game 9-1. Trigg’s goal was by Clark Adams off an assist by Romaine Cunningham.
Elsewhere, Fort Campbell hammered Todd County Central 2-1.
