Trigg County gave head coach Mike Wright a Wildcat Gym going away present with a 78-61 win and Fifth District title Friday night. The win gave Trigg County their 18th career district title and first in four years. Trigg County has now won a district title five of the last seven times it has been held in Wildcat Gym.
Trigg County jumped ahead 19-8 in the first quarter, but Lyon County used a 10-3 run to get back into the game and pull to within 34-33 at halftime.
Deonquez Nance then scored eight points during a 10-0 Trigg County run that gave them a 47-36 lead. Lyon County would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Nance finished with 32 points and became the school's all-time leading scorer in the process. Cole Gardner added 19 points and eight rebounds, and Dee Murphy contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Thomas Scott led Lyon County (15-16) with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Trigg County improves to 19-8 with the win. They now lead the all-time series with Lyon County 73-72.
The district title is the fifth for Mike Wright -- four as boys coach and one as girls coach. He is now 5-2 in district championship games.
