Union County used a 12-3 run to end the first half and a 14-3 run later in the second half to beat Trigg County 56-43 Monday night at Wildcat Gym.
The first half featured three ties and three lead changes before Union County began to pull away at the end of the first half. The Bravettes were also aided by two generous calls at the end of both the first and second quarters.
With three-tenths of a second left on the clock at the end of the first quarter, Raven Sprague caught an in-bounds pass and hit a 3-pointer that was counted for a 14-9 Union County lead.
At the end of the first half, Rachel Hodge hit a 3-pointer well after the horn sounded that was counted by the officials.
Union County led by as many as 21 in the second half before Trigg staged a late run to make the final margin closer.
Union County (10-6) was strong on the boards, outrebounding Trigg 36-22. 20 of Union's rebounds were on the offensive glass that led to 23 second chance points.
Brooke Kearney hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Ashley Matlock added 12 points seven rebounds. Alyssa Maxey added eight points and six steals.
Union County got 16 points and nine rebounds from Rachel Buchanan.
Trigg County is 3-5 lifetime against Union County and haven't beaten the Bravettes since 1992.
The Lady Wildcats (3-12) will play at Dawson Springs tonight at 6pm.
