Johnson was undrafted out of UK and signed for a brief time by the New York Giants. He was signed by the Dolphins on Aug. 3. In just a short time, he has impressed the Dolphins enough to the point where he was one of the first defensive subs to enter Friday's preseason loss to the Falcons. He has been seeing time at inside linebacker.
Here are what some close to the Dolphins are saying about his chances:
- Mike Berardino of the Sun-Sentinel says Johnson stood out Friday
- Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel says Johnson appears to have leapfrogged J.D. Folsom and Austin Spitler for the final LB spot on the roster
- Bleacherreport.com says Johnson's play on special teams gives him an inside edge to the final spot.
On Tuesday, NFL teams must cut trim their rosters to 75 players. The final cut to the 53-man roster is Saturday. Johnson has one more preseason game to solidify his case for a roster spot when the Dolphins play at Dallas Thursday.
