Caldwell County scored goals in bunches and handed Trigg County their second shutout loss of the season, a 2-0 setback in the championship game of the Fourth District Tournament Thursday in Eddyville.
The game was played in muddy and sloppy conditions as a result of the week's rains.
Jesse Sherrill scored Caldwell's first and last goals of the evening. His first came at the 16:00 mark of the first half off a header assist from Riley Stephens. Less than a minute later, Aaron Laurent headed in a shot to the corner of the net to give Caldwell a 2-0 lead.
Caldwell County added a third goal in the half when Zach Adams' shot bounced off goalie Kevin Latham and into the net at the 27:00 mark.
Glenn Gray got loose at the 48:00 mark of the second half and scored Caldwell's fourth goal. Sherrill finished the scoring 25 seconds later off some miscommunication in front of the Wildcat net.
Caldwell outshot Trigg 14-10 in the game.
For Caldwell County, it's their second straight district title -- both at the hands of Trigg County.
Both Caldwell (11-5-1) and Trigg County (11-4-4) will advance to next week's region tournament.
Trigg County will play Todd County Central, who lost the Third District title game to Fort Campbell 2-0. The Falcons won the district title for the second straight year. Fort Campbell beat Trigg 2-1 in last year's region semifinals.
