One day after being introduced as Mercer County's new football coach, the Danville Advocate Messenger is reporting that Will Weaver has changed his mind and will return to Madisonville.
The newspaper reported that Weaver met with the Mercer County players and principal this morning to inform them he had a change of heart and was returning to Madisonville.
Weaver is 12-9 in two seasons at Madisonville and was hired to replace Shannon Burcham after he returned home to take the Trigg County job in 2007. Weaver, a former Fort Campbell assistant coach, was 5-5 in 2007 and 7-4 last year, marking the first time in 24 years the Maroons had consecutive non-losing seasons.
Now Mercer County must continue their search for a new coach to replace former Trigg County standout Marty Jaggers, who resigned after going 36-14 in four seasons, including the 2006 state title. Jaggers resigned earlier this month when the school would not let him continue to coach after retiring as a teacher.
