Trigg County showed they still have some work to do following their football scrimmage tonight at Perdue Field. The Wildcats lost to Marshall County 3-1 in varsity action and 1-0 in JV action.
Both teams had trouble running the football, but Marshall County was more effective passing, hooking up on all three touchdowns through the air.
Marshall County completed 17-of-22 passes for 214 yards against Trigg's defense, which gave primarily a zone look. Marshall County scored passing touchdowns of 23, 59, and 12 yards. On the ground, the Class 6A Marshals ran for 42 yards on 15 carries.
Trigg County totaled 170 yards of offense. Donald Bush was 1-of-6 passing for three yards before leaving with a mild ankle injury. Mitch Rogers came in and completed 6-of-10 passes for 137 yards. He threw a 90-yard screen pass to Shelton Burress and tossed an interception.
Burress caught two passes for 93 yards, while Dustin White added two catches for 42 yards. Three other Wildcats caught passes.
On the ground, Brandon Bridges ran for 30 yards on seven carries, while Burress added seven yards on two carries.
Trigg's offensive line showed signs of needing work as Wildcat backs were thrown for losses on six of their 21 carries.
However, Trigg played with Dustin Calhoun, who is making the move from fullback to offensive line. He has not been cleared by doctors to play since passing out at a practice last month.
Junior Dillon Cionko, one of the team's leading tacklers last year, suffered a meniscus injury earlier this month and will likely miss the first few games for the Wildcats.
Trigg County will scrimmage Graves County at Calloway County next Friday night. Their game is the first game of the night and is believed to start at 5:30pm.
Josh Adams tries to get additional yardage after making a catch.
Andre Wright provides a block on offense for the Wildcats.
